Congratulations to These Webby Award Winners!

A big congratulations to 30 media companies on Storyhunter who have been honored with a Webby award or nomination. From producing news to VR to social videos, we’re so proud of our clients and our talented, global freelancer community, who together are shaping the future of digital media.

National Geographic

National Geographic made a big impact on the Webbys this year with twelve nominations — over half of which won a Webby or People’s Voice Award. Two of their big wins are for the Best Overall Social Presence and Best Social Video Series. Here’s a couple videos they produced this year for social media:

National Geographic hired filmmaker Komeil Soheili through Storyhunter to capture this story of ancient windmills in Iran.
National Geographic hired Storyhunter filmmaker Allison Otto to shoot an exclusive video on the discovery of a new worm species that lives in a toxic cave.

AJ+

The digital shorts brand on Facebook showed up in force for the Webbys this year, snagging the Webby Award for Social: News & Information, where they were up against The Washington Post, Reuters, Frontline, and more. Here’s some short docs they’ve recently published on Facebook:Documentary filmmaker Shira Pinson came up with the idea for this story on an artist who creates masterpieces out of old blue jeans. She pitched the story to AJ+ on the Storyhunter platform and they hired her to shoot it.

In this emotional piece, documentary filmmaker Jacob Hurwitz captures the story of a man who cares for dying children in foster care. AJ+ producers found the story and hired Jacob through Storyhunter to shoot it.

Along with their parent company, Al Jazeera English, AJ+ was nominated for seven more Webbys in the Film & Video, Websites, Social Video, and Mobile Sites & Apps categories.

Buzzfeed

The digital media company scooped multiple nominations this year with their email newsletters and mobile news app taking home the awards. We’re glad to see them producing more feature videos, such as this recent story that’s already been viewed half a million times on YouTube:

Buzzfeed hired video journalist Jorge Uzon through Storyhunter to film this heartwarming piece about a couple that accidentally adopts a giant pig.

Our clients at AirBnB, CNN, Conde Nast, Fatherly, Fusion / Univision, mindbodygreen, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Refinery29, Time, WIRED, and Zillow joined those above as Webby and People’s Voice Award winners.

We’re also proud to see that our 60 Second Docs and Great Big Story members were nominated for video awards as we see them work hard to produce quality videos every day.

Great Big Story was nominated for Mobile Sites & Apps: Best Streaming Video and received an honorable mention for Websites: Media Streaming.

This ten week intensive school for butlers-in-training is held in the Netherlands. Great Big Story had Storyhunter filmmaker Alberto Chelleri shoot the video on the academy.

60 Second Docs was nominated for the Social: Culture & Lifestyle (Video) category for their short docs like the one below.

This video on another school — this time for fathers who want to learn how to do their daughters’ hair — was shot by Storyhunter filmmaker Irene Herrera for 60 Second Docs.

And we want to give a shout-out to all the other Storyhunter members honored by the Webbys: All Def Digital, ATTN, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Engadget, Fusion, Great Big Story, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, M ss ng P ces, NBC News, Quartz, Reuters, Univision, Vox, and The Weather Channel.
