Storyhunter Staff Picks of the Month: March 2018
We saw a lot of great films in Storytime (our weekly tradition where we get together and watch videos made through the platform) last month, but only three can make the cut. From a nonprofit showing how they help business women in developing countries to a campaign against fossil fuels, these are our favorite videos from March:
HERproject: Empowered Women, Dignified Work, Better Business
Storyhunter Documentary Shooters: Naotomo U., Shravan V., Adam R., and Anirban M.*
BSR, a global nonprofit that develops sustainable business strategies and solutions, needed to film a video showcasing the business women empowered by their HERproject initiative. They chose to tell the stories of three women from Bangladesh, Kenya, and China. The video shows how women in global supply chains are changing the lives of their female colleagues by sharing knowledge and skills through their Peer Educator program. BSR hired four different local Storyhunter shooters to film the stories.
This Cryptic Underwater Maze Holds Life That Survives on Methane
Storyhunter Documentary Shooter: Lise K.
Seeker needed a documentary filmmaker in Massachusetts to interview two scientists for their Science in the Extremes series. The scientists, John Pohlman and David Brankovits, dive into underwater caves to study organisms that survive off of methane. In this episode, they explain the risks they take in navigating these underwater mazes in order to collect new data on these organisms.
Atimonan, Philippines: #FossilFree Faith
Storyhunter Documentary Shooter: Dennis A.
350.org is a nonprofit that advocates for clean energy solutions. For their campaign on building a fossil free world, they wanted to tell the story of local priests in the Philippines, who organized their community to protest construction of a coal power plant. To demonstrate their commitment to clean energy, the priests even installed solar panels on the roof of their church. 350.org hired a Manila-based documentary filmmaker to shoot and edit the story.
