Storyhunter Staff Picks of the Month: October 2017

It might be the spookiest time of year, but this month’s Staff Picks are more likely to have you fascinated than frightened. As part of a long tradition at the Storyhunter office, we get together every Friday to watch the best videos produced through our platform. These are our October favorites:

What It’s Like Being a Cosplay Cam Girl

NBC Left Field
Storyhunter Video Journalist: Carlos B.*

NBC Left Field is a new vertical by NBC, creating videos about important and far-out stories. They’ve been working with New York City-based journalist and filmmaker Carlos B. to film several short docs. Carlos shot this story for them about the life of a cosplay cam girl, one of thousands of webcam performers who make a living from their digital shows.

Protectors of the Penguins

Hakai Magazine
Storyhunter Documentary Shooter: Jessie A.

Hakai Magazine, a digital magazine that tells stories from along the world’s coastlines, put out a call for pitches on the Storyhunter platform. Jessie A., a traveling documentary shooter, pitched them this story about the wild South African penguins on the verge of extinction.

Hate in America: A Love Story — Laila and Saba

AJ+
Storyhunter Documentary Shooter: Katina P.

AJ+ wanted to film a short documentary series on hate in America, so they posted a call for pitches on the platform asking for stories of people navigating incidences of hate. Katina P., a video journalist and filmmaker from Durham, North Carolina, pitched them this story about two queer Muslim activists in love.
