Storyhunter Staff Picks of the Month: September 2017
Fall is finally here and with it comes our September Staff Picks. Born from our tradition of Storytime, where we get together at our Brooklyn office each Friday to watch the best videos produced through our platform, here are our September favorites:
Demining Cambodia: The Best Man For The Job Are Actually Giant Rats
NBC News
Storyhunter News Shooter: Shira P.* and Lucas V.*
London-based video journalist Shira P. and her partner, Lucas, shot this video for NBC while traveling in Cambodia last year. She pitched them this story about the giant rats used by the Cambodian government to find landmines left over from decades of war. NBC published the video in partnership with Global Citizen for their 2017 festival as an example of how people around the world are taking action to make the world a better place.
Amputees Climb a Volcano for a Cause
Great Big Story
Storyhunter Documentary Shooter: Julia M.
CNN’s Great Big Story commissioned documentary and drone filmmaker, Julia M., to film this story after she pitched them the idea. To get the footage, Julia trained with the mountain climbers in Ecuador and followed U.S. Marine Corporal Kionte Storey, who lost his leg to an IED in Afghanistan, and his fellow amputees on their attempt to the summit the volcano.
Meet the Kenyan man who built his own power station from scratch
Zinc
Storyhunter Video Journalist: Carol N.
Zinc is a social media-based publisher that covers stories about everyday people who create positive change in their communities. They look for story ideas from around the globe and often hire local journalists to film these human-interest pieces.
