About Gabriela A.

Gabriela Díaz Arp is an independent director and producer passionate about the ways visual language can deepen human understanding and connection. She has directed and produced a number of independent films, exhibits and interactive experiences, as well as co-founded production companies Rabbit Raccoon and Las Palmas Studio. Some of her clients include New York Times, Blue Chalk Media, CNN International, Univision, Emory University and the United Nations. She is currently working on her first feature film in her motherland of Puerto Rico. The film, Matininó, tells the story of a multi-generational family of women transforming their experience with domestic violence and misogyny into a science fiction film. Her last film, Meeting a Monster, which explores the memories and motivations of former white supremacist Angela King through a virtual reality experience, premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and was shown at festivals around the world including Cannes NEXT, Sheffield Doc Fest, Atlanta Film Festival and New Orleans Film Festival. Gabriela has a Master's in Visual Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has been a Knight Fellow with the Sundance Institute, a participant in Oculus’s VR for Good program, and most recently a Studio IX grantee, honoring her work as both a mother and filmmaker.

About Keith T.

Keith Terrell is a director, writer and producer whose credits include music videos, commercials, television, film and live broadcast productions. Over the past several years, the Los Angeles native has gained a wealth of experience working alongside some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry as a First Assistant Director. Most notably, he was Ava Duvernay’s A.D. for the groundbreaking Jay Z music video/short film Family Feud. Keith has also run sets for other top-selling artists, including T.I., Tyga and Blake Shelton. As Keith’s reel continues to grow, he’s placed a special focus on creating engaging content that showcases the diversity of minority communities--highlighting strong, positive images that debunk many outdated media stereotypes. His first narrative film, Penny For Your Thought, centers on the harsh reality that domestic violence can have on a girl who witnesses her mother’s abusive relationship and tries to intervene. He hopes to bring awareness to the epidemic and encourage those in abusive relationships to get help. It premiered at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood in 2016. His latest project, Raincoat is now streaming on Amazon Prime and deals with the harsh realities of many young black mails in the inner city who are searching for their identity while being courted by many vices and evils. In addition to his professional goals, Keith has a personal goal of helping the next generation of content creators. Knowing that many inner-city kids don’t have exposure to entertainment industry careers, he began teaching film at New Earth, an L.A. High School for troubled teens. He plans to expand his efforts by setting up a continuation program that teaches students how to apply for roles “on set” and build successful careers.

Steve Ball pioneered by forecasting the niche markets of Black media consumers. He made inroads into Blockbuster in the 90s with his feature films and remixed his success and moved his movie products online early, reading the winds of change. In many ways, his work echoes the Blaxploitation films of the 70s. Like a number of the films, Blacks directed and produced in the underground heyday Balls’ dramas had a moral core beneath the gangster trappings. His best work featured sharp dialogue that probed ethical dilemmas. Now, Mr. Ball is taking his savvy into micro-markets; channeling his narrative savvy and street smarts to the constant appetites of the audience he knows so well.

Mya-Breyana Morton is a director and cinematographer based in Atlanta, Ga. She began her career as the cinematographer and co-producer for a short horror film entitled, Auntie, which was a viral hit and has since gained over 800,000 views online. Her student films, What Remains of Emily, Proud, and The Traveler had a successful domestic and international festival run, collectively winning eight awards. She was also the recent recipient of the Independent Film Trailblazer Award presented by the Black LGBT Film Festival. Her main goal in her career is to create films that resonate with people in new and exciting ways. Her approach to doing so is by educating herself on the craft of filmmaking and storytelling and simple trial and error.
