I started my day at 6 a.m and drove two hours to get to the couple. It was a 10 hour day of filming! I began the day by setting up lights, two cameras for the interview and my computer so the producer and journalist could interview this couple via Zoom. I had so much fun spending time with the couple and learning about their unconventional way of making a living living in a RV van. I was blown away by how much their son knew about investing at a young age of 8! My favorite part about my job is being able to connect and learn from those I interview and film. As we get set for the Tokyo Olympics later this summer, NBCLX storytellers Ngozi Ekeledo and Chase Cain made a pit stop in their home state of Georgia to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, which they both attended as children. Known as the “Centennial Games,” the 1996 Summer Olympics marked the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympics and were the fourth Summer Olympics held in the United States at the time. Their trip inspired us to take a trip down memory lane to share some of our favorite early Olympic memories. One of the best things a person can do when they can't find something they're looking for is to go out and make it themselves. This is precisely the story behind Smithey Ironware Company, the business founded by Isaac Morton over a decade ago. Around the time he fell in love with the practicality and beauty of cast iron skillets, he also realized that ones he felt were up to par were few and far between. As someone who believed in the ability of cast iron to be loved and passed down over the years, he wanted to make something that could live up to the quality of days past. Today, Smithey Ironware produces their cast iron skillets in North Charleston, South Carolina, creating pieces that will be used for many years to come. A short film featuring the artist Apexer A short film about surfer and artist Tim McManus. This film was written, shot, and edited by me and filmed around the charleston area. This cloud forest in Mexico is one of the wettest places in the country. But El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve could disappear in a few decades because of climate change, mining and deforestation. It is home to hundreds of species of animals and plants like the jaguar, horned guan and the quetzal, many of which are threatened. Meet the locals trying to save their forest.
