Alex Pritz is an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning documentary filmmaker based in New York City. Recently, Alex directed The Territory, which premiered at Sundance 2022 where it won both the Audience Award and a Special Jury Award for Documentary Craft. The Territory was shortlisted for the 2023 Academy Awards, nominated for three Critics Choice awards, a Gotham Award, a Producers Guild Award, and a record seven Cinema Eye Honors where it won for Best Debut Feature. The Territory was named a NYT Critics Pick, and was acquired by National Geographic Documentary Films for a theatrical release in the United States, Canada, the UK, Brazil, Aotearoa/New Zealand, and the Netherlands. William Martin is a BAFTA nominated documentary filmmaker focused on gender inequality, immigration, queer rights, and climate change. He graduated in 2021 with a master's in journalism, with a focus on News and Documentary. He also has a bachelor of arts degree from NYU Tisch in photojournalism. With funding from the Fund for Investigative Journalism and as a migration fellow with the Ground Truth Project, William created a 30 minute documentary examining the Trump administration’s controversial choice to continue detaining asylum seekers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Celeste and Maria, two undocumented women, survived both COVID-19 and human rights abuses while detained at Otay Mesa ICE detention center in California. No Way, Which Way, was a BAFTA student film awards shortlist and was selected for the Toronto Women's International Film Festival. Most recently, William was awarded grants from BAFTA and the Fund for Investigative Journalism to explore how the U.S. Border Closure has impacted transgender asylum-seeking migrants in Mexico’s dangerous border cities in the midst of Covid-19. William was also a Great Big Story Genesis student fellow, one of four students globally awarded an opportunity to create a short film. His story, The Dolphins of Laguna, follows the fishermen of a small town in Southern Brazil who have been collaborating with dolphins for over 100 years to catch fish. Safico, 68 years-old, has been fishing with one particular dolphin, Caroba, for 45 years. Safico goes to great lengths to both protect and uphold the tradition of fishing with dolphins. With funding from National Geographic, his documentary, Daughters of Drought, investigated how Malawian women are impacted by climate change. The film won Best Short Documentary at the Toronto International Women Film Festival and will be published with WaterBear in August. At 13 i was the paperboy in port of Athens, Greece. At 18 i was reading Paul Virilio trying to understand mass media & communication theories for college degree. At 19 i was reporting live on news radio. At 20 i was told i should drop radio for live TV. For next 6 years my news reporting repertoire spanned anything from an elephant's birthday to Athens street gangs violence, to dead sea lions to Middle East conflict zones and Olympic Games. Azza Cohen is a documentary filmmaker and historian currently based in New York City. She holds a master’s degree in colonial history from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and a bachelor’s degree in history from Princeton University. She has experience directing, producing, editing and teaching documentary film. She has filmed from a moving rickshaw in Sanchi, India, held a waterproofing garbage bag gingerly over a lens in Dublin, Ireland, and held the camera steady with a chollo cactus stuck in her foot – Azza brings a positive attitude, creative eyes, and problem solving skills from artistic and academic endeavors. Her documentary work includes: Specks of Dust, a documentary profiling a group of Indian activists fighting human trafficking on the India-Nepal border; Desert Laboratory, a short on the apprentices of the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright; and Refugee, Refugee, a microdocumentary following a Rwandan refugee adjusting to life in the USA. She thrives through multimedia storytelling and scholarship, through pieces such as: “The Invisible Irish Border” (invisibleirishborder.tumblr.com) on the effects of Brexit on rural border towns in Ireland and “Jigsaw City” (jigsawcity.tumblr.com) on the problem of racial segregation in St. Louis. Her current projects include The Last Statesman, a documentary on Senator George Mitchell and the lost art of bipartisanship; REPEAL, a chronicle of the abortion debate in Ireland; and Making It, a multimedia project following women in the film industry.
