Born in Brooklyn and raised in suburban New Jersey, Kevin Dougherty was a film and comic book fanatic from an early age. After a stint at New York's School of Visual Arts, Dougherty got a job at a local cable company, directing commercials for pizza parlors and cell-phone stores. Dougherty began his film career as a production assistant in New York. During the making of “Bonfire of the Vanities” he incurred the wrath of director Brian DePalma after refusing to let him on set without proper identification. He spent the rest of the shoot guarding an empty parking space in an underground garage. While a freelance producer at Byron Preiss Multimedia, he enlisted illustrator Drew Friedman to handle art duties for “My Cool Diner”, an interactive kids’ game that was released by Simon and Schuster in 1997. Gilbert Gottfried, Billy West and Uncle Floyd Vivino were also part of “My Cool Diner.” He wrote and directed “Fuzzball” for Nickelodeon's animated series “Ka-Blam!” Long before YouTube, he created “Juanita & the List” an early web cartoon that racked up more than a million views through an ad-hoc network of websites like Spin.com, Showtime.com and Wired.com. Dougherty directed music videos for The Locust, The Nervous Return, an Albatross and others. For more than a decade Dougherty managed the Cafe Metropolis, an esteemed independent music venue in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He is currently at work on a documentary film about Drew Friedman, “Vermeer of the Borscht Belt”

I started my career in filmmaking working on independent films in Seattle in the 1990s. I joined I.A.T.S.E Local 488 as a grip and worked on features and television series including DISCLOSURE, NORTHERN EXPOSURE, and others. In 1997, I left the film industry to attend graduate school and then teach filmmaking at Emerson College and Ithaca College while still working on independent films. In 2010, I was a delegate to Poland for the American Documentary Showcase with my short film NOTES ON LIBERTY. From 2013 to 2018, I was one of the primary filmmakers for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology where I shot and produced numerous short-form documentaries on birds and their habitats. I was the Director of Photography for the award-winning noir web series THE CHANTICLEER and in 2017 lived in Vienna, Austria as a Fulbright Scholar. I hold an MFA in Film and Video Production from the University of Iowa Graduate College.

Adam C. Earnheardt (Ph.D. Kent State University, 2007) is a professor of communication in the Department of Communication at Youngstown State University and weekly columnist for The Vindicator newspaper, where he has written about social media, relationships, technology and society since 2014. Earnheardt is a founding member of the International Association for Communication and Sport, and a member of the board of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. He served as executive director of the Ohio Communication Association and as chair of the National Communication Association's Mass Communication Division. Earnheardt has published several books with other communication scholars including his most recent books ESPN and the Changing Sports Media Landscape (2019), Public Speaking in the Age of Technology (2016), and The ESPN Effect: Exploring the Worldwide Leader in Sports (2015). His other books include Sports Fans, Identity, and Socialization: Exploring the Fandemonium (co-edited with Haridakis & Hugenberg; Lexington, 2012), The Modern Communicator: Applications and Strategies for Interpersonal Communication, Group Communication and Public Speaking (now in 2nd edition; co-authored with O’Neill; GRT, 2016 & 2009), Sports Mania: Essays on Fandom and the Media in the 21st Century (co-edited with Hugenberg & Haridakis; McFarland, 2008), and Judging Athlete Behaviors: Exploring Possible Predictors of Television Viewer Judgments of Athlete Antisocial Behaviors (2008). He serves as the social media expert for WFMJ-TV (Youngstown, OH NBC affiliate). In January 2014, Earnheardt was invited to present at the inaugural TEDxYoungstown event, where he spoke about the power of social media and sports to create social change. In 2010, Earnheardt was named a Distinguished Professor at Youngstown State University and received the Advisor of the Year award. In 2009, he was recognized as one of the top 40 professionals under the age of 40 by the MVP 20/30 Club in northeast Ohio, and selected as one of the top 5 MVPs for his work in the community and for achievements as a scholar and teacher. He previously worked for Clarion University of Pennsylvania for 10 years (1996-2005) serving as the University’s first webmaster and e-marketing director.
