Alhassan Kemokwai was one of the first Ebola survivors to walk out of Kenema Government Hospital during the peak of the outbreak. We met Alhassan and followed his story. Story was acquired by The Guardian UK Plan's Girls Making Media Project aims to empower girls through the use of media, and help them realise and spread the word about their rights as women and as children. When it comes to Ebola prevention, survivor Isatu Kanu is one of Sierra Leone’s leading ladies. By self-isolating when symptoms began to show, practicing good hygiene and seeking early treatment at a specialized center, both Isatu and her husband managed to not only survive Ebola, but to prevent its spread to their five children and multiple grandchildren, all of whom live under the same roof.
