Hello friend! My name is Jason, and I wanted to tell you a little bit about who I am and how I got here. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where as a young kid, I earned the nickname, Creative Boy, due to my constant outflow of youthful creative energy. Whether it was performing for my family, building things out of toilet paper rolls, writing stories on the Word Processor, filming skits with my cousin, or learning how to use a computer, I was constantly pushing the limits of my creative mind. In 2003, I ended up in New York City, where I went to NYU Film School and earned my BFA. My college education set the foundation for a career in the arts and entertainment industry. And I’ve had an incredible career so far! I’ve traveled the world with my video camera in hand, from Beijing to Haiti, Bonnaroo to SXSW, and the Grammys to the Oscars. I’ve gotten the chance to talk to amazing people, film and edit inspiring stories, and make friends, all while staying true to my creative nature and drive! My passion is telling stories, and I’ve found that the best way for me to do that is through documentary filmmaking. Documentaries allow me to craft a story, and put the puzzle pieces into the right place. I can apply my skills as a musician as well, as music and rhythm are a huge part of any documentary project. My name is Hedayatullah Noori, a reporter, cameraman, video editor, and technician. I was forced to leave Afghanistan with my wife and four teenager children because I had worked as a technician, cameraman and reporter for 13 years for Voice of America in Kabul. I have resettled in Silver Spring, Maryland. I am authorized to work in the United States. I am very interested in finding a job that will allow me to use my skills here in the U.S. and to support my family. As you can see from my resume, I studied electrical engineering and computer science in Afghanistan, but due to my interest in the press, I started working in the media in 2003 for an Afghan newspaper, Hewad, and then for Afghan National Radio and Television as a reporter and cameraman. In 2008, I began working for Voice of America and did so in several capacities. In addition to working as a reporter and camera operator, I also have experience in video editing. Alex Pritz is an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning documentary filmmaker based in New York City. I'm a freelance filmmaker and video journalist focused primarily on documentary projects. I'm currently picking up short-term gigs as a Freelance Producer, Editor, or Videographer while I work on a part-time commissioned short documentary based out of Nebraska. I most recently finished working on a project with production company Meerkat Media on a commission from Sesame Street in Communities. The project entails documentary-style educational videos about how to talk to kids about race and racism through observing real families in conversation with their children. Prior to delving into full-time freelance life, I worked as an Associate Producer on seven feature-length historic documentaries produced by CNN Specials as well as an observational film produced by HBO Max/CNN Films. Independently, with my production partner Sana A. Malik, I produced, shot, and edited the student BAFTA-award winning documentary, Guanajuato Norte. The film follows a migrant farmworker in Connecticut and his sacrifice of being away from his family to provide a better life for his children. The film went on to screen multiple film festivals and was acquired by The New Yorker’s Documentary Channel. I also co-directed the short film, Chief Standing Bear's Journey to Statuary Hall, for the Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs with Judi gaiashkibos (co-director and EP.) Together, we made a film to be used as an educational resource, following the historical story of Ponca Chief Standing Bear and the modern-day journey of building a statue of his likeness to stand in the U.S. Capitol. In addition to working as a Director/Producer on commissioned short films and personal projects, I love helping established Director’s visions come to life as an Associate Producer, Editor, or Second Camera. I’m easily curious but particularly drawn toward stories about migration, family, social justice, and the meaning of home.

Hello there! My name is Spencer Bruttig and I am a Washington, D.C. based film producer, DOP and editor. I came out to DC from the SF Bay Area to help start a new documentary and podcast production company (Tegna and Vault Studios) but most recently joined Google as an in-house creative producer working on their marketing team. I am also the Cinematographer on the D.C. based narrative series "Anacostia," as well as the Baltimore Comedy series "Thespian." I am also the DP on the new reality television show "City Boyz DC." William Martin is a BAFTA nominated documentary filmmaker focused on gender inequality, immigration, queer rights, and climate change. He graduated in 2021 with a master's in journalism, with a focus on News and Documentary. He also has a bachelor of arts degree from NYU Tisch in photojournalism. With funding from the Fund for Investigative Journalism and as a migration fellow with the Ground Truth Project, William created a 30 minute documentary examining the Trump administration’s controversial choice to continue detaining asylum seekers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Celeste and Maria, two undocumented women, survived both COVID-19 and human rights abuses while detained at Otay Mesa ICE detention center in California. No Way, Which Way, was a BAFTA student film awards shortlist and was selected for the Toronto Women's International Film Festival. Most recently, William was awarded grants from BAFTA and the Fund for Investigative Journalism to explore how the U.S. Border Closure has impacted transgender asylum-seeking migrants in Mexico’s dangerous border cities in the midst of Covid-19. After two years, the short film, Sin Hogar (No Home), will be released this late Fall. Here's a preview of the content published with The New Humanitarian—selected for IQMF Amsterdam and Tulum WE film festivals. William was also a Great Big Story Genesis student fellow, one of four students globally awarded an opportunity to create a short film. His story, The Dolphins of Laguna, follows the fishermen of a small town in Southern Brazil who have been collaborating with dolphins for over 100 years to catch fish. Safico, 68 years-old, has been fishing with one particular dolphin, Caroba, for 45 years. Safico goes to great lengths to both protect and uphold the tradition of fishing with dolphins. With funding from National Geographic, his documentary, Daughters of Drought, investigated how Malawian women are impacted by climate change. The film won Best Short Documentary at the Toronto International Women Film Festival and will be published with WaterBear in August. His video journalism is currently featured in Time, Teen Vogue, The GroundTruth Project, BRIC Media, and Al Jazeera.

Ray Whitehouse (he/him) works at the intersection of documentary film and journalism. After growing up in Chicago, he lived in San Antonio, Texas, before moving to Washington, D.C. He works primarily as a director of photography. His feature-length directorial debut, A RUN FOR MORE, had its world premiere at Frameline in June 2022 and screened more than 30 festivals across the U.S. He served as the Second Unit DP on TO THE END, directed by Rachel Lears, which premiered at Sundance in 2022. BRING THEM HOME, a documentary short he co-directed and DP’d, premiered at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in 2022. He was part of the Washington Post team that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for reporting about the Capitol insurrection and its aftermath. He’s worked as a cinematographer on more than 20 documentary features and filmed, produced and edited projects for The New York Times, The Washington Post, TIME, and Univision, among others. He is community coordinator for the D.C. chapter of Video Consortium and a regional co-chair of the Documentary Producers Alliance. CUTTER HODIERNE is a documentary cinematographer. He has also worked as an award-winning feature film director. His debut feature film FISHING WITHOUT NETS, a story of pirates in Somalia told from the perspective of the pirates, won 'Best Director' at the Sundance Film Festival and was called "Sundance's most beautiful film" by The Wrap. Enrique Huaiquil is a Chilean-American award-winning cinematographer, photojournalist, documentary photographer, video editor, and graphic artist based in Northern Virginia. I’m the founder and filmmaker at Alita Films, a documentary production company. As a nonfiction visual storyteller, I create videos for a wide variety of brands, nonprofits, and news organizations. My work for GE exploring 3D printing won the Best New Artist award at the Tongies. My first feature documentary Waiting for John, about the last surviving Cargo Cult, aired in PBS's award-winning Pacific Heartbeat series and screened in film festivals worldwide.
