My name is Kevin Balmer, aka Diggable Monkey. I've been in the freelance business of video production for the past 13 years and I've witnessed the vast evolution of the video media landscape in that time. I've done mostly short story documentaries with a good dose of commercial work. My company brand is heavily associated with the arts and design arena, with a bit of subscription-based online course development. The last few projects I've completed were with the Oregon Historical Society, the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and the NW Blacksmiths Association. Originally from the Midwest, I currently live in Portland, Oregon with my wife, Melissa, and our two dogs and cat. I received my MFA in Film and Television Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and a BA in Film Studies from the University of Michigan. My film and video work has appeared in film festivals and been featured online at PBS, NPR, Comedy Central, Bust, Interview Magazine, GQ, the White House blog, Nylon, The Huffington Post, Jezebel and Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In blog. My photography has been featured online at National Geographic, Slate, Interview Magazine and Civil Eats and in print in National Geographic's hardcover book Feeding America: Stories of Hunger and Hope, Growing Oregon magazine, Venus Magazine, and various newspapers. Other previous film/video related experience includes casting assistant/extras casting for the Oscar-nominated film Nebraska, production assistant on music videos for Outkast and Beck, and assistant to screenwriter/producer Kirsten (Kiwi) Smith (Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You). I'm currently directing a documentary on the Rose City Riveters, the supporters group for the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League. Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Martin Vavra is an award-winning film and commercial director. Early on, he had a love for a variety of different art forms. At the age of five, he began playing the drums. Later, he toured Europe as part of an orchestra. At the age of 10 he began painting water colors, with several of his paintings getting showings and winning awards. His college years became a mishmash of rock band performances, science classes and sci-fi consumption. For many years, Martin was a wildland fire fighter, eventually becoming an ecologist. In 2005, wanderlust caught hold and Martin left ecology to travel, leading him to discover his true passion, filmmaking. Since then, his life has been dedicated to cinematic storytelling. Martin’s series, The Last Stand, made its debut on DailyMotion and has received millions of views. Living up to the Rising Star title awarded to him by the Oregon Media Production Association, his films have been awarded numerous honors, including, Best Short Documentary and Best LGBQT at the Breckenridge FF, Festival Jury Prize at the Humanist Film Festival, Best Director, Best Series and Best Score.
