Scott Dalton is a documentary photographer and filmmaker living in Houston, Texas. He was based for 14 years throughout Latin America, mainly in Bogotá, Colombia, where he covered the civil conflict and drug war before returning to his home state of Texas. He now does editorial and corporate assignments while spending his free time working on long-term personal projects. Currently he is working along the U.S.-Mexico border as well as projects throughout the American South. His documentary film, LA SIERRA, won numerous awards and has been broadcast by PBS, BBC, HBO Latino, and many other international broadcasters. His photography has appeared in the New York Times, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic, Harper's, Time, Newsweek, the Washington Post Magazine, Condé Nast Portfolio, Business Week, and The New Yorker, among other outlets.

I like to be where the action is. Nothing is off limits for me when it comes to getting the shot. I believe in showing as much emotion as possible in every frame of video. Whether shooting a crime scene or a travel series, the emotion is there, and I will portray that in the best way possible. I shoot on the latest and greatest equipment in the industry. My weapon of choice, the Canon EOS Cinema series cameras with L-Series lenses.

I started making films when I was a teenager and shot some film for a TV station when I was in college. When digital video cameras came on the scene in the 1990s, my employer at the time, the Voice of America, began a program to provide video stories online and to affiliate stations around the world. I was the first correspondent to jump on that opportunity, in 1997, and continued shooting video until I retired in June, 2017. In most cases I shot the video and did the interviews for the story, then wrote it, voiced the narration and edited the package. Since then I have been involved in projects of my own and have shot video for a cosmetic commercial and for a YouTube channel host. I have also been involved in some film contests in Houston.

After a career of over 35 years working as a tax accountant, the inner drive of photography & videography has overcome my desires of ticking and tying numbers on a daily basis. I have been passionate photographer all of my life and have leveraged that passion by using film to tell the stories of others. One of the most important early works I have achieved is capturing the story of Sergeant Major James Williams, the last known living Buffalo Soldier. His story has lead me to understand that there are others with passionate life stories that will go unknown unless someone tells that story.
