Over the years as temperatures have gradually risen and seasons have become increasing unreliable, smallholder coffee farmers and their livelihoods have been under threat. That's why the Alliance for Resilient Coffee (ARC) is working to improve farmer’s resilience to climate change in Uganda. Watch to learn why your coffee supply chain needs to get climate-smart and there is need to integrate gender in all climate interventions! The Feed the Future Alliance for Resilient Coffee (ARC) project works to address the effects of climate change on smallholder coffee growing families across the globe. In Uganda, the active ARC consortium members have combined their expertise to develop tools and practices that improve climate change resilience A journey through Kampala's once busy streets during the corona virus lock down period. This documentary focuses on Hima cement’s SOS children’s project. The project was launched in two parishes of Busaiga and Kyakaigo, which are also artisan mining communities in Harugongo SubCounty, Kabarole Dostrict. The Invisible Labourers of Kampala speaks to the plight of women in the informal sector of Kampala, following the stories of Florence, Gloria and Consolata forging a livelihood as women street vendors in the city, confronted by the city authority's duty to modernize Kampala. Uganda’s labour force participation is among the highest in the world, with 84% of the population being economically active. The scarcity of job opportunities in Uganda has led the emergence of a bulging un-employed or under-employed and under-productive work force of young men and women. Many of them are forced to take up work in the informal sector, in jobs that are precarious and poorly remunerated, with little access to social protection. Despite its precarious nature, informal work represents an important lifeline for many of those who participate. NpM, Platform for Inclusive Finance (NpM), conducted a Diagnostic Study on expanding financial inclusion of refugees with the Ugandan Financial Service Providers Ugafode and RUFI. Many refugees are still excluded from financial services which results in missed opportunities to integrate in new communities, become part of the economic system and build their lives again. This is what this documentary explores. About Anthony G.
I am an award-winning Kenyan filmmaker based in Kampala, Uganda. 12 years ago, I started my career as a TV producer at a local television station. After experimenting with a variety of genres in my 5-year tenure, I began to develop a fondness for documentaries. After my stint on television, I started working as a freelance producer where I collaborated with other filmmakers as a cinematographer and video editor. Working as a freelancer presented a sense of creative freedom. The red-tapes associated with television studios were eliminated. I had a chance to “do what I wanted”. This freedom allowed me to experiment more as I perfected my craft and delved further into the technicalities of production with the aid of online resources and other filmmakers in the trade. 7 years ago, I co-founded a start-up video production house in Kampala known as Framez and Wavez. My vision is to work with other Ugandan and African filmmakers in creating and curating multimedia content that will help shape Uganda and the East Africa region by telling inspiring stories that steer clear of the “dark-continent” narrative that has become commonplace whenever Africa is under the spotlight. I hope to preserve the African culture, stories, and resilience through these multimedia productions that will be kept for posterity.
