There are only two major documentary shows produced in Ukraine that I haven't been part of. Netflix's 'Winter on fire' and BBC's Ukrainian episode of the 'Top gear'. The first one didn't need me being based at the real-time footage filmed by more than 100 video streamers of the Maidan Revolution in 2014. The second one turned out to be dull. 'The Russian Woodpecker' about Chernobyl zone which was also advertised as something big coming from Ukraine is more of a sensationalist trick rather than a documentary. I’m a documentary filmmaker, producer and photographer currently based in Portland, Oregon. Previously, I was a video producer at The Oregonian and Blue Chalk Media in Portland and before that, I worked on the photo desk at the Chicago Tribune. I received my Master’s in photojournalism from Ohio University, where I also taught several courses. In undergrad, I studied photography and art history in my parents’ hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. My love for photojournalism began early – when I claimed my grandfather’s piles of National Geographic magazines that he hoarded in his trailer in Kentucky after he passed away.
