There are only two major documentary shows produced in Ukraine that I haven't been part of. Netflix's 'Winter on fire' and BBC's Ukrainian episode of the 'Top gear'. The first one didn't need me being based at the real-time footage filmed by more than 100 video streamers of the Maidan Revolution in 2014. The second one turned out to be dull. 'The Russian Woodpecker' about Chernobyl zone which was also advertised as something big coming from Ukraine is more of a sensationalist trick rather than a documentary. I’m a documentary filmmaker, producer and photographer currently based in Portland, Oregon. Previously, I was a video producer at The Oregonian and Blue Chalk Media in Portland and before that, I worked on the photo desk at the Chicago Tribune. I received my Master’s in photojournalism from Ohio University, where I also taught several courses. In undergrad, I studied photography and art history in my parents’ hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. My love for photojournalism began early – when I claimed my grandfather’s piles of National Geographic magazines that he hoarded in his trailer in Kentucky after he passed away. As a perpetually curious person, I read endlessly and ask a lot of questions. Whether through films or photographs—my aim is to promote critical thinking, understanding and respect. I'm most drawn to making work that examines how environmental and economic changes affect marginalized or indigenous communities. I'm currently producing films for several NGOs that deal with issues related to women and children’s healthcare and education in India. Born in Savannah, GA, Brock Scott is an artist, photographer and filmmaker living in Seattle, WA. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Atlanta College of Art in 2009, Brock worked in the film industry on television and in major motion pictures such as The Walking Dead, Fast and Furious, and The Hunger Games. His experience in the film industry informed him of state-of-the-art techniques and knowledge that have been fundamental to his development as a filmmaker. In 2015, Brock became an independent documentary filmmaker, enjoying successful collaborations with BBC, Netflix, New Georgia Project, Adult Swim, and CDC. His film, Boxcar Fair, won the AIAP International Motion Award and was an Official Selection of the SXSW film festival. Scott is currently the founder of On the Grid Creative (OTGC), a Seattle based creative agency producing award-winning video productions focused on storytelling and social impact. During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, Brock has worked with CDC and Living Walls to create a series of short documentaries informing people in Georgia about the importance of vaccination. Brock was also part of a public health campaign with Southern Fried Queer Pride promoting awareness regarding LGBTQ+ health and HIV prevention. He was the director of a 2020 film campaign with New Georgia Project to encourage voter turnout. In addition to filmmaking, music is one of Brock’s biggest influences. Yeong-Ung Yang is a NY Emmy® Award-winning photographer and filmmaker, who formerly worked for Newsday as a staff multimedia producer. He produces visual news reports as well as long-form documentaries. Daily assignments have given him access to a wide range of subjects—from a longtime underboss of the Colombo crime family was released from prison at the age of 102, Trump Impersonators with different political views performing in the Trump era. Going back to the subjects pivoting off answers and engaging them on his own makes for a higher level of insight. Yeong-Ung helps conceptualize and visualize investigative contents such as "Testing the Divide,” a recent Newsday's documentary film an undercover investigation revealing evidence of unequal treatment by real estate agents. As a cinematographer, he applied various visual skillsets ranging from setting up lighting and audio for studio interviews, portraits to aerial drone video. The piece won the Peabody Award in June, 2020. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Yeong-Ung has been focusing on documenting underreported stories that lay beneath the front pages. Works include a 7-month long video coverage of the Kurds in Iraq (2006), Asian immigrants riding casino buses as a lifeline(2013), and “Unvarnished,” a front-page New York Times series (May 2015), year-long in-depth investigation into the exploitation of nail manicurists who work primarily in Korean-owned salons. Series won Pulitzer Finalist in Local Reporting (Apr. 2016).
