Hey! I am a freelance journalist from Germany now living in the Great Lakes region of Africa, more precisely in Gisenyi/Rwanda at the border to the DR Congo. I moved here in 2016. Since 2005 I have been working for several public broadcasting TV stations in Germany and produced reports, portraits, documentaries from 5 min to 30 min. I love my job! It's that simple. It's my passion to find inspiring stories, develop a film idea, write the story board, get it on camera and finalize it in a captivating edit work. Why? That's also simple. About Nebiat M.

Nebiat Assefa Melles is a video journalist and documentary filmmaker based in Kigali, Rwanda. Her recent documentary “Blue Devil” has won the Knight Award for Best reporting in Science and Environment, also got nominated as Best Short Documentary at Pan Africa Film Festival, Montreal Black Film Festival, and San Diageo Black Film Festival. Nebat has spent eight years reporting and producing documentaries the national media, Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, where she was named Producer of the Year in 2011 and 2012. She is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and specialized in Documentary Filmmaking. Her First Masters was in Theatre and Development from Addis Ababa University and got her bachelor's degree in Theater Arts at Addis Ababa University.

About David M.

I have worked in MASS’s Kigali Office from March 2019 to August 2020 as a Filmmaker. I was documenting the progress of the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund along with several other projects. Prior to joining MASS, I spent the last six years as a freelancer engaging with the Rwandan film and television industry as a writer, producer, editor, and photographer. I have worked for a number of companies and individuals including the Rwanda Broadcast Agency, Tour du Rwanda, Sony Ivory Coast, Coca Cola,... My vast experience has allowed me to gain technical skills behind the camera and develop cinematographic techniques to produce compelling stories. As a Rwandan native, I have been an active participant in my country’s media outreach, working on television production, documentaries, advertisements, and promotional videos. I am well-versed in cultural content work and bring knowledge and expertise to our team. I hope to continue harnessing the powerful narratives of my community and the continent at large.

I'm a male, aged 22 years old and Rwandese by nationality. I started film making in 2019. I was working as an intern at my friend's film production company. But later on, i felt as most of what i was doing was setting up lights, carrying some boxes,packing up.. So i decided to start something of my own and be independent. So i started doing some free works for gyms,events and musicians. I started growing since then in experience; i also started getting paid for some work. I was mostly renting the gear i was using but few months later, i bought my own camera and lenses. I mainly focus in making commercials, documentaries,travel videos and short films.Now i own a video production company, ' Dawn Films ltd'.

I am an aspiring young growing from Rwanda running a filming business venture. I have shot in two countries, Mauritius and Rwanda. At an early age I have been involved in creating videos for companies ranging from National TV of Rwanda, Education institutions, corporate companies. I believe storytelling and filmmaking is my way to go and  an effective way that we as Rwandans and as Africans we can use to continue to rebrand ourselves as a country and I would like to lead in telling these stories. I believe that the media has a key role in transforming Africa, in a way that will connect people, promote peace and bring positive change to the future of our young people on this continent.
