India’s far-right BJP government has been ruling for the elite for the past six years. The richest 10% now own 77% of the national wealth, while over 130 million Indians still live in extreme poverty, an economic gap that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuing to widen through his neoliberal project. redfish travelled to several key states in India to discover the extent of Modi’s cronyism. Last year, nearly 400 girls and women in India were injured or killed in acid attacks. But one group of survivors is not asking for charity. Instead, they have defied mainstream media accounts portraying them as helpless victims, opening a café just minutes from the Taj Mahal that they use to raise awareness about acid attacks. The women who run the café, called Sheroes’ Hangout, consider themselves feminists and fighters, and apart from serving tea and coffee to tourists, they seek out new survivors to teach them how to heal and reclaim their lives. Sheroes documents the arrival of a new survivor to the café as she struggles to overcome her shame and embrace her inner and outer beauty. The film is about memories - a record of places, people and professions that once gone will never return, and of the mysterious beauty of the man-made ruins that mark the transition from the Calcutta of authentic tradition to the new one of "modernity". It's a very personal story told through the eyes of a photographer. The switch from traditional dug wells to "tube wells"—in which a pipe is drilled into an aquifer — proved fatal in the 1990s, when a high level of arsenic contamination was detected in water from tube wells in Bangladesh and in eastern India. Nowadays, surface ponds provide a safer source of water. This was a multimedia story that was based on the condition of three rivers in North Bengal that are at dying stage due to increasing pollution in the waters and also due to climate change to some extent. I travelled extensively and shot videos of the three rivers for doing the story. The article is based on the life of Totos which is a rare Primitive Tribal Group in West Bengal, India. Just 1300 Toto population are only alive globally and they live in a village called Totopara in West Bengal. They are suffering from Tuberculosis and within a few years they might become extinct. I wrote the news report based on a study According to the meteorological office, a low pressure has formed in and around the east-central Bay of Bengal. This will condense and create depression which can later turn into deep depression and cyclones. Barely a week after Cyclone Tautae ravaged India's western coast, a very severe cyclone Yaas has now hit Bengal. The cyclone has hit Paradip in Odissa and Sagar Island today 26 may around noon. The windspeed is 155-165 kmph gusting up to 180kmph. Indian coast guards are closely monitoring the situation. In May 2020, Amphan, a category 5 storm had wreked havoc in west bengal, osissa and bangladesh. Last time during Amphan there were loss of infrastructures but no lives were lost in Bengal. In the same way this time Administration is prepared well in advance, NDRF team is deployed, civil defence are patrolling. IAF and Navy are on stand by. Ground report on a conflict between Maoist rebels and the Indian government. 400 Maoists had ambushed in Chattisgarh. At least 22 personnel have lost their lives and 31 injured.
