That script led me to wanting to pursue filmmaking which took me to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco California. There I learned to edit and the basics of shooting while I worked for a SF News station and a local Wedding Photo and Video Company. After moving to Vegas I found myself working for many production companies until I finally decided to work for myself fulltime. Since then I have shot for a myriad of companies both small and large. I'm James, a shooting PD with a documentary and journalism background. In December 2022 I returned back from Cuzco, Lima, where I was working on a series of short-form documentaries for Reuters, reporting on the protests and military occupation in Peru. For two years I worked for Google / YouTube as a PD, creating content across the US and UK. I know the world of brand content very well and feel confident and enthusiastic about directing and producing within this genre. I run New Take Films, a short form documentary company that has just been shortlisted for Production Company of the Year. In December I returned from Pakistan where I was producing and directing a documentary entitled Section 298. The documentary focuses on the persecution of female minorities in remote regions of the country. This shoot involved working with vulnerable contributors, building strong rapports and filming on location with a small team.
