A 17-year-old swimmer Edgaras Matakas dives into complete darkness. Edgaras has not been able to see since he was 15 years old. He was the only disabled swimmer in the national team of Lithuania of the 2016 Paralympics. The whole story about Edgaras is a part of our multimedia project „Will to Win“: nanook.lt/en/will-to-win/ In Malaysia, perhaps nobody knows the water better than a group whose name literally means ‘sea gypsies.’ For generations, the Bajau people have lived off the sea, but there is growing concern about whether they can sustain their lifestyle. “The Standing Protest” is a documentary film about a man who inspired Turkish protesters to turn violent demonstrations into one of the most spiritual and creative protests of the 21st century. The documentary takes a look at how the protesters in Turkey used creativity, humor, music and art as forms of non-violent civil disobedience while facing brutal police repression and media blackouts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQBuDzP4xwk NCC "The Future Office" is a commercial shot in Lithuania - 2015. At Great Big Story, we've eaten a lot of weird, wild (wonderful) foods. But nothing beats the taste of home. We traveled to five countries around the world and asked grandmas and their grandkids to cook their favorite dish together. On the Eastern border of the European Union, a new stage of cross-border co-operation with Russia has begun. Yet, new joint initiatives are unravelling in a tense atmosphere. Despite numerous arrests, detentions and brutality of the police forces, Belarusian journalists continue to report on protests and actions by the authorities, which are aimed at the society calling for a new presidential election and the leadership change. They continue their work thanks for the solidarity among themselves and the society. What are the working conditions for journalists? What are they afraid of? How do they deal with censorship and internet shutdowns or disruptions? What does the citizens' support look like? These are just some of the questions we answer. ⚫️ The presidential election in Belarus, which took place on August 9, 2020, is a turning point for Belarusian civil society. Since the second half of May, rallies of support for opposition candidates have taken place in the country. The rigged results of the elections and the police aggression that took place between August 9–11 convinced the Belarusians to firmly state: "it's enough". The protests have been going on for the fourth month now. ⚫️ This movie is the first episode of the "Canaries" mini-series. We show the work of independent journalists and the initiatives they create in various countries around the world. In the first season, we will introduce to you the heroes and heroines from Belarus, Japan and Colombia, among others. Sasha Makarchuk is completely paralyzed. Vitya Mikhalchenkov has only one finger that moves. But the guys create websites, launch projects, teach other people with disabilities to work at a computer so as not to be dependent. Vitya and Sasha have been friends for eight years, but they have never been to each other's home. Borisov and Liozno are 200 kilometers apart. But neither distance nor health prevented the friends from meeting.
