Eunice lives in the Kibera slums of Nairobi, Kenya and was one of 494 people who received $1125 no strings attached between Nov. 2020 and June 2021 as part of a GiveDirectly COVID-19 relief program focused on entrepreneurs. For more voices from her program, visit https://www.givedirectly.org/eunice-o... This program, funded by Google.org, paired unrestricted cash transfers with free budgeting and entrepreneurial training from SHOFCO (a local NGO). This “cash plus” design aimed to enable women entrepreneurs to both withstand the worst impacts of COVID-19 restrictions and make meaningful investments in their businesses. This was one of dozens of GiveDirectly programs run in the past year. GiveDirectly is a nonprofit that lets donors send money directly to the world’s poorest households. We believe people living in poverty deserve the dignity to choose for themselves how best to improve their lives — cash enables that choice. To date, we’ve sent over $400M to more than 1 million people in ten countries. http://www.GiveDirectly.org/about Film Directed by Joan Poggio & Jackson Kang'ethe An overview of the Invisible Inventories Exhibition at the National Museums of Kenya. ---- Three years in the making, and combining scientific research and artistic practise, the exhibition reflects on the absence of Kenyan cultural objects archived in Western Museums through scholarly inquiry, artworks and activism. A central tool of this inquiry, is a database that currently identifies over 32,000 objects archived in 30 institutions worldwide. What does it mean for Kenya to be missing so many of its cultural objects? And what does their presence mean for the museums where they currently reside? Invisible Inventories is an attempt to engage with this asymmetry, and the raw and painful relationship that underlines it. It draws on the diverse experiences of the participants in this project and tries to approach this shared history together. It will also show at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum from May 28 – August 29 2021 and at the Weltkulturen Museum Frankfurt from October 6 2021 – January 9 2022. About the project: The exhibition is a collaborative project by the Invisible inventories programme (IIP) comprising the Shift collective (Germany/France), The Nest Collective (Kenya), Goethe-Institut Nairobi, Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, Weltkulturen Museum and the National Museums of Kenya. It is funded by Kulturstiftung des Bundes. More Information here: https://www.inventoriesprogramme.org/
