About Charlie V R.

Charlie V Rose is a director and DOP based in Nairobi. He started his career in Edinburgh as a cinematographer in 2014 The next year he was nominated for a BAFTA New-Talent award in Cinematography for Scottish short film ‘Grout Pray’, and shot a tv pilot starring Liam Neeson called ‘Life in Black’. Charlie then turned his focus to directing and writing when he moved to London, where he was hired as in-house Director at Stink’s newly formed content division. Charlie used his experience and love of the Highlands to create films for Johnnie Walker and Mercedes, shot on location in some of the most stunning areas of Scotland. After the stint at Stink Studios, Charlie cycled 8000km up Africa, through 9 countries, exploring the lives and experiences of African Rangers and Poachers on the front-line of the war on poaching and raising £50,000 for Ranger welfare in the process. Since returning he started the London wing of LA formed content studio ‘Stadium’, www.stvdium.com, and then left to become a Director for Edinburgh based Campfire Agency. He has recently created an exhibition in New York about the impact of Covid in Kenya, a short film starring Dave Johns of 'I Daniel Blake', and is currently making a feature documentary about the ballet scene in Nairobi.

I grew up and studied in London, completed an MA at the University of Edinburgh then enrolled in a year of fine art at City & Guilds. In 2015, aged 24, I was offered a position in Madagascar with the opportunity to work in some of the most inaccessible parts of the island; photographing, filming and reporting for a humanitarian NGO. Over 2 years, my work with this NGO trained me to read the human stories through the veils of culture, history and language. The richness I witnessed in these perspectives compelled me to communicate the truths of marginalised people. With this vocation, I returned to Madagascar independently to explore the unheard stories of this vast and intricate nation. Currently based in Nairobi, I am operating across East Africa but forever plotting my next return to Mada.

Nelson is a trained multimedia broadcaster having practiced most recently as a Bilingual News Reporter for one of Kenya's leading Television Networks; Citizen Television where he produced, scripted, edited and published news reports for different bulletins in both English and Swahili languages for its different audiences. Nelson has experience in production having interned as a Television Director and Programs Producer for the National Broadcaster; Kenya Broadcasting Corporation as well as its affiliate youth station Channel Y254 for its different shows such as Good Morning Kenya, Y in the Morning, The Bounce among others. Despite the pandemic, he was able to undertake several online training classes with Africa Uncensored who's main goal was to equip young journalists with the tools to undertake investigative stories. Nelson was also able to learn from Facebook's Africa Video Storyteller Training Program in which the participants were taken through the dynamic changes in the field of storytelling and just how they can be able to produce their content via Mobile Journalism (Mo-Jo). Nelson strives to be part of a dynamic, expanding and reputable organization with a strong commitment to providing quality broadcasting to the society and which values professional excellence.
