Aston Villa Football Club is in England's West Midlands. But 5,000km (3,000m) away, in a small town in Ghana, an incredible story of love for the club plays out, led by 20-year old Amando Owusu-Boakye. With COVID-19 disrupting sport globally, this piece explores the potential for the Ghana Premier League to market itself in the absence of fan favorites such as the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. Manchester United and Arsenal have had a few difficult seasons in the English Premier League. But that has not diminished the massive popularity they enjoy in Ghana, as evidenced in this matchday report. The Abahizi Dushyigikirane Ltd. (ADC) Factory is a women-owned cooperative that produces handbags for Kate Spade New York. Gardens for Health International trains the women working here in gardening vegetables, eating a balanced diet, and providing a bi-monthly life skills course. I was the sole videographer and post-production editor for this work. The TYO Young Entrepreneurship Program (YREP) is empowering bright, high-potential Palestinian youth to pursue their professional aspirations. Thanks to the generous support of the Qatar Fund for Development, YREP is cultivating talent from across the West Bank. I was the sole videographer and post-production editor on this project. Layan Amireh, a third grader living in Balata Refugee Camp, is one of many children served by Tomorrow's Youth Organization. TYO operates in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, and provides a safe space for learning in the midst of a turbulent area. I was the sole videographer and post-production editor of this piece. We created this heartwarming and family-oriented TV commercial for a cooking gas company in Nigeria. The company intends to appeal to its northern audience and so we worked with them from ideation, screenwriting, casting, production, directing, and post-production to create this masterpiece. An advocacy animation created to spread awareness about safe home practices for staying burn free for the Jocaz Research Group. In May 2020, I shot a news piece for Al Jazeera English. The subject was Fatoumata, a girl who like 350,000 other children lost access to education in Burkina Faso due to the ongoing conflict. I found the main characters, filmed the interviews and the majority of b-roll. In January 2020, I worked as local producer on a documentary for Vice News and Showtime - ‘Terror in the Sahel’. With journalist Ben Anderson, I travelled to Burkina Faso’s north, set up interviews, found locations and greased the wheels of the whole production.
