About Stephen R.

Stephen Joel Root is a writer, director, actor, producer, editor, storyteller, artist and owner of Flag Film Productions in Flagstaff, Arizona. He originally hails from the frozen tundra of Minnesota where he first picked up a video camera to tell stories as a young boy with an overactive imagination. He studied film/video at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design where he won several student filmmaking awards and created short films that screened in film festivals around the country. After graduation he worked as a reporter/photojournalist for KPNX Channel 12 - Arizona's NBC affiliate for nearly a decade. He's what's called a backpack journalist in the T.V. journalism trade as he worked solo shooting, writing and editing T.V. news reports for daily broadcasts. His television journalism work has appeared on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, The Today Show, CNN and MSNBC among other networks and affiliates around the country. His feature film "Unconscious" was finished in 2012

About Eric R.

I specialize in close-in coverage of breaking news events, filling in gaps in major network coverage. I designed a custom mobile journalism system that provides me with a more flexible platform to quickly broadcast and upload media. I’m constantly working on new ways to leverage advances in mobile technology, and further simplify the complex tasks required of any multimedia journalist. My focus on speed, mobility and simplicity gives me an ability to satisfy the ever-growing need for lightning-fast, concise, unbiased, and broadcast-quality news products. Whenever possible, I use drone and 360° video live-streams to create an unedited, immersive experience for viewers. I also produce documentary video and occasionally publish written news stories.

About Andrew B.

After working as a student journalist in 2004, Andrew fell in love with storytelling for impact. Between 2005-08 he cut his teeth as a coordinator on The Amazing Race; 3rd AD on the BAFTA-nominated docudrama Eagle Falls; as PM for Discovery and Animal Planet shows; and as the writer/producer/director of marketing videos for impact organizations. This while also story producing The Joe Show documentary, with his mentor turned partner, Director Randy Murray. In 2008, Andrew and Murray began another documentary, Mitchell 20. Andrew produced, wrote, and the two co-directed. Andrew helped raise $550k for this film to cover its 3 year-long production. It was released in 2012 via a theatrical run with AMC Independent and won a regional Emmy for Best Documentary. The same year, Benson sold his original concept Edge of War to Discovery Military. The shows host, General Wesley Clark said it “could reduce enthusiasm for war”, which was exactly its intent. This led to Discovery’s licensing of The Joe Show and a development deal.  In 2013, Benson moved to San Francisco to pursue this film and set up a creative agency, A Happy Project, where he served as a creative writer, producer, and director on digital products and content projects for startups and NGOs. Chasing his film, Democracy: An Inquiry he spent 2017/18 living in Paris, Monrovia, and Johannesburg before settling down in New York. Today, he works with clients like the BMW Foundation, Patreon, University of Phoenix, b8ta, Tomorrow Lab, Accountability Lab, and Humanity United. Outside of Phoenix, he's lived in San Francisco, Paris, Quito, Monrovia (Liberia), and Johannesburg. He's traveled and worked in 30 US states and 30 countries, and is currently based in New York City.

With over 20 Official Film Festival selections in the past three years Matty Steinkamp is not one to take a break from creating. As head creative at Mango Skies outfit in Phoenix, AZ Matty Steinkamp has self produced, filmed, and directed now 2 feature documentary films and 4 short films since 2015. Most notably "The Process" with Calais Campbell of the Jacksonville Jaguars the aired on ESPN last fall in 2017 as well as USA today and Yahoo sports. Recently Matty has been working hard with several NFL affiliates along with MLB to produce several online films and series. Along with his International Film Festival selections with his new feature "You Racist, Sexist, Bigot." and "Play The Documentary", both continue to reach new audiences every month to inspire more people to come together for their communities.

Danny McManus’ passion for video production started as a child. While most kids were on the playground, Danny’s curiosity was focused on a family relic VHS camera as a 10 year old. He honed his craft of videography in college at Arizona State University, where he met his friend and future business partner Joe Forte and they started D-MAK Productions, a film and video production agency based in Phoenix, Arizona.

About Dylan A.

I have been working in the film, television, and digital video industry for the past 10 years. In those 10 years I’ve worked a slew of production jobs. From a lowly PA, to 1st AC, to Gaffer, to Cinematographer. I’ve pretty much done it all. Every job has provided a different learning opportunity, and an opportunity to hone my craft. In 2016 I was approached by Hearst television to join a new digital studio they were building to promote their networks. This was my opportunity to get behind the camera on a consistent basis and create a vast body of work. I found a passion for telling authentic, impactful, heartfelt stories. I think these types of stories have a special spot in my heart. The digital studio became the cornerstone of digital video content for all Hearst markets. I served as the lead cinematographer at the studio with multiple additional responsibilities. In addition to creating the aesthetic that our team was known for, and shooting a majority of our videos, I was managing our crews in the field, piloting new projects, and editing 99% of the content I was shooting. I helped to build a significant video production team where teamwork and collaboration were the foundation of the studio's success. In 2019 my fiancé matched to her medical residency in Phoenix, Arizona. And I had no choice but to follow my heart and go with her. This meant leaving HTV's Digital Studio and embarking on a new journey. I'm now working freelance in the greater southwest region, taking my skill set and applying it to productions like yours!
