In June 2017 I produced a short documentary film for the NGO Solidarités International about the humanitarian aid brought to a place called Opienge, in the northeast of Congo. A place completely cut off of the rest of the world but with thousands of displaced people who had to flee conflict and fighting. The film shows how difficult it is to reach people in forgotten places like Opienge. Franz Lermer failed. At the age of 40 his life was a shambles. His company collapsed and his wife suddenly died. Although he believes in God, he did not know how to continue. This portrait film tells his amazing story. How he found again joy and happiness. And what all of this has to do with a horse ranch... Hermann Frank is a lawyer. He defends people in front of a court. Even if he knows that they have committed a crime. A portrait. A documentary movie about forest fires in Bolivia. After legalization of burning of the forest in Bolivia, voluntary firemen stand against the worst fires Bolivia ever experienced. Chaqueo is Bolivian practice of burning down the forest in order to gain cultivable land, in 2019 this practice was made legal recognizing fire as a legal tool for the cultivation of the land. Soon after, the fire in the country got out of control. The movie introduces the problematic of the Chaqueo and shows the effort of voluntary firemen groups, that are trying to save most vulnerable places such as human settlements and natural reservations. The main emphasis of the film is to make the viewer contemplate the reasons this situation is happening and the direction that humanity is taking. The whole movie was shot by two people in a very limited time frame using small personal budget with a partial support of crowdfunding community. The whole post-production was also realized by voluntary participation. The idea behind the project was to create an audiovisual map of nationalism in Europe. It doesn’t seem like a near future, but the current situation in Catalonia (as of 2018) raises a necessary question: Is this an isolated case or is the Union only witnessing the birth of the first cracks? The reality is that most European countries deal with the desire for self-determination of one or more of their regions; and the economic crisis, the increase of immigration and, above all, media attention in this regard, has translated into growing support for nationalist parties and movements and has revived old enmities. Almost all the States of the continent are home to one or several regionalist movements that over time can rearrange the geopolitical space. The documentary wants to echo voices normally inaudible in the media that may have much to say in the future of Europe. The Spanish example has already shown that trying to silence them is not the solution. Reportage covering expulsion of Rohingya people from Myanmar. In August 2017 the outburst of violence in the Rakhine state of Myanmar sparked the most rapid human expulsion of our time, the Rohingya Exodus. Over a few weeks, more than 500 000 people crossed the border to neighboring Bangladesh carrying with themselves reports of burnings, killings, and rapes. The relatively unknown Rohingya suddenly became “The worlds most persecuted minority”. PE Intensive 18 is a highlight reel for Rent the Runway Foundation which supports female founders. At the third annual Project Entrepreneur Intensive, these women entrepreneurs took part in hands-on workshops and connected with fellow founders, as well as mentors and investors. Spike TV underwent a relaunch rebranding itself as Paramount Network and we asked people how they feel about it.

About Susanne K.
Hey! I am a freelance journalist from Germany now living in the Great Lakes region of Africa, more precisely in Gisenyi/Rwanda at the border to the DR Congo. I moved here in 2016. Since 2005 I have been working for several public broadcasting TV stations in Germany and produced reports, portraits, documentaries from 5 min to 30 min. I love my job! It's that simple. It's my passion to find inspiring stories, develop a film idea, write the story board, get it on camera and finalize it in a captivating edit work. Why? That's also simple. Because everyone loves to hear a good story. Beside producing films, I also write as a freelancer for magazines and newspaper. Feel free to get in touch! About Petra C.
I'm a freelance producer and editor. I grew up in Slovakia where I studied Journalism, and later moved to New York City to study Film Production and Screenwriting at The New School. While in school, I wrote and produced a number of short films and won the Rena Down Award for my feature script Crushing. I have worked in many different ares of production. Until recently, I was an Associate Producer for Magnet Media Films where I had a opportunity to create videos for brands such as Adobe, Cisco, Google, Chase , Spike TV etc. In 2017, I produced and co-edited a virtual reality short film about human trafficking called In the Shadows which premiered in January at VR Fest 2018 in Las Vegas. I love the challenge of bringing an idea or concept to life, considering not only the creative possibilities of a script but also the logistical realities and crafting a harmony between the two in order to achieve an optimal outcome that all those involved can be proud of.
