I'm an award-winning freelance journalist, photographer and videographer based in Africa, who writes primarily feature articles on a range of topics like women's rights, humanitarian issues, conservation, diplomacy, and anything else that generally takes my fancy. Since November 2014 I have freelanced for a range of publications including Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya and Middle East Eye. Prior to that I worked at a number of national daily newspapers and broadcasters, including the Dominion Post (New Zealand), The Philippine Star (the Philippines), Radio New Zealand (New Zealand) and the Khaleej Times (UAE). I have an LLB (Otago University), a Graduate Diploma in Journalism (Massey University), and a Certificate in Documentary Photography (Istituto Europeo di Design).

I have been a TV-host, anchorman and journalist throughout the 20 years of working experience, combined with the working experience of 10 years as an Editor of several different TV-shows and News Editions. My distinguished work as a Host and Journalist on a EU funded TV-project, where I filmed in 7 Balkan countries and as well as my work on the US Department of State’s “TV Co-Op” Fellowship has given me experience and a different point of view regarding the editorial decisions and the approach of the news. My media experience is quite various, and gives me a perspective of new approaches, different than the ones we are used to now – serviceable and servile news reporting, that brings more confusion to the viewers. My experience and work, helped me to be selected for a Research UN Fellow for the prestigious United Nations Fellowship Programme for Journalist “Reham al-Farra 2016”, held at the UNHQ – NYC, NY, USA. I’ve had the opportunity to cover and report for UN issues and as well as from the 71st General Assembly of the UN, as one of the 15 journalists, selected among the world countries-members of the UN Organization. My experience as an actor for 5 years and as a PR and Online Community Manager for several years gave knowledge of working in team. Everything mentioned so far, combined with the experience in the NGO sector, nevertheless if it was direct or indirect has made me a better citizen – an active and socially responsible one. Mentioning the NGO sector leads me to mentioning all of my works as a Trainer and Lecturer for communication, media-communication, social networking, PR and social inclusion.

Hello! My name is Hristo “Itso” Petkov and I am a film/video director, cinematographer and editor. My background includes working as a graphic and product designer as well as VFX specialist in Worldwide FX. There I was a 3D Lighting Artist, using software packages such as Maya, ZBrush, Nuke and Mari. I worked on Hollywood features, such as Expendables 2 and Killing Season. Over the last five years I co-owned a company, serving as its main director, editor and cinematogrpaher. Through my previous experience I have developed a full understanding of the overall pre-production, production and post-production process. I also have deep knowledge of color grading, as well as color and composition principles, as I have always found these important in my work. The software programs I use the most are Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Resolve. Moreover, I have worked with FCP and Avid on numerous occasions. I have made Internet and TV commercials, music videos and short films, and have received praise for my work at both film festivals and representatives of top brands, such as Microsoft, Samsung, Unicef, Nivea, Shell and Visa to name but a few. Apart from creating commercials, I have also made several short and mid-length films. The first of them – “1, 2, 3… Until You Find Me” was screened on the Quarantine Film Festival, where it won an award for visual excellency. My credits in this film include directing, screenwriting, editing and color-grading. The next film I was involved in, “Pigs Don’t Fly”, was screened on the Edinburgh Fringe – the biggest art festival in Europe. My credits in this film include co-directing, screenwriting, editing and color-grading. My most recent project – “A Common Connection”, was screened on the Sofia International Film Festival, as well as in Edinburgh and was extremely well accepted by both Bulgarian and British audience. My credits in this film include co-directing, screenwriting, editing and color-grading, and cinematography. I have also been a hobbyist photographer for more than seven years.
