I’m a professional photo / video journalist born in Mexico City in 1975. Since 2010 I’ve been covering a variety of issues and topics in Southern Asia, Middle East, Northern Africa, Europe and Central America. I focus my work on the humanitarian cost of conflicts, economics and wars. My work intends to contribute to building our visual memory of the world I testify. I do have experience covering the major conflicts for international news agencies such as AP and The New York Times which provides me with the skills to deal successfully with stress and pressure while meeting strict deadlines under the most hazard conditions. I’ve photographed under reported issues like the ethnic war in Myanmar and the forgotten war in Yemen as well as some of the major current events like the political upheavals in Istanbul, the conflict in Gaza, the military coup in Egypt, the war in Syria and the tribal conflict in Libya. My work has been exhibited at galleries, museums and photo festivals in Europe, Asia, USA and Mexico. I’ve contributed to magazines and media outlets around the globe like TIME magazine, The Guardian, The New York Times, Paris Match, RT TV, MSNBC News, AP Associated Press, Los Angeles Times, Foreign Policy, Der Spiegel, Newsweek, Al Jazeera, The Daily Beast, The Sunday Times magazine, The Telegraph, The Washington Post, CNN, Wall Street Journal, LEFT, Vogue, L’Espresso, Expressen, Knack, dS Standaard, Wirtschafts Woche, Corriere della Sera, Internazionale, Aftonbladet among others. I also have contributed for non-governmental organizations like MSF (Doctors Without Borders) and UNHCR. I’m currently photographing the migrants' crisis in North Africa as part of a long-term project of documentation based on the worldwide conceived phenomenon of a "massive human displacement". It’s first chapter “Libya: a human marketplace” documents the human trafficking and slavery network operating in Libya.  2020: Center of Documentary Photography. About Cecilia V.

I am an ambitious and thorough journalist who can shoot video, edit, present and write scripts in English, Swedish, Spanish and Portuguese. After seven years of working with broadcast television I have covered small towns in Sweden, the whole country, terror attacks in Europe and worked as a Correspondent in Latin America for the largest network in Scandinavia, Swedish Television (SVT). I am currently employed as a Digital Specialist at the online desk of the newspaper Göteborgs-Posten. Our focus is on breaking news through digital media. The coverage is through live TV and written articles for the web. I report live with the help of camera operators or by myself through my cell phone. I work 12 hour shifts, which means I am on for four or five days and then off for four or five days. On my days off I am available to work with international companies.

I spent my formative years studying first Fine Arts in Italy and then obtaining a degree and masters in Neuroscience from the University of Manchester, England. I then came to filmmaking as a natural consequence of my interest in both art and the natural world. This unusual and diverse background means I feel comfortable with both the technical and aesthetic side of filming and photography, but also with the most rigorous and scientific attitude required in the research of wildlife documentaries. Having travelled extensively and witnessed first hand some of the destruction caused by human exploitation of the natural environment, I feel very strongly about environmental protection and use film as a medium to tell some of the most important and compelling stories about conservation. My most recent work (Trapped) is concerned with illegal bird trapping in Cyprus and has been selected and awarded at various festivals in Europe.

I am a filmmaker and photographer from Syria, now based in Gothenburg, Sweden. And Lyon, France. I produced and directed multiple short documentaries, Art videos and music videos most of which within the fields of cultural integration and social development, in addition to several other commercial projects. I lived and worked in Dubai - UAE, Istanbul - Turkey and Cairo - Egypt before moving to Sweden in 2015 where I continued working on short docs, social media and online content in addition to working in camera and lighting departments in feature film productions.

I truly burn for this industry and made a promise to myself when I got accepted into film school, that I would never work with anything outside of this field and would do whatever it takes to carve out a space for myself.
