The Dragon Sisters are major forces in the NYC nightlife scene. They won twice at the 2021 Glam Awards: Best Duo/Group and Breakthrough Artists of the Year. Their debut EP, The Fine Print, was also released in 2021, and in 2022 The Dragon Sisters were honored as official ambassadors for NYC Pride. They have presented live music in collaboration with Summer Stage Festival, Lady Fag’s Lady Land Festival, Daybreaker, and Zero Community. Their work as artists and culture leaders has been covered in media outlets including Billboard, Vogue, and TelfarTV. A Dragon Sisters experience is equal parts dynamic synchronous movement, lyric incantations, skin, glitter, and hip-hop vibrations that reach audiences in their viscera. Their music and performances pay homage to their ancestry and black & brown queer futurity. Their music is a hypnotic concoction of Bronx grit with a Southern pulse. Their style interprets femininity and power to promote possibility and love. Their most recent collaboration is a campaign with the one and only Danessa Myricks Beauty, featuring their new single “Beauty Supply”. Available on all platforms, the song is an affirmation to unapologetic black femininity, and will be followed by more new music dropping in Fall 2022.

D'Shonda Brown currently serves as the Associate Editor of ESSENCE's Girls United. As a Brooklyn native and Spelman College alumna with a BA in English, D'Shonda has a deep-rooted appreciation for Black women, culture, hip-hop and style. A suicide attempt survivor, rape survivor and mental health advocate, D'Shonda's mission is to be a voice for the voiceless, have tough conversations through her writing and destigmatize negative connotations through her work. Before graduating from the number one HBCU with a BA in English, D'Shonda had internships at Johnson & Johnson, Adult Swim, and ABC 7 News - WJLA. Once realizing her passion lied in the realm of journalism and storytelling, she was a respected multimedia freelance culture journalist who has bylines in Forbes, HYPEBAE, HighSnobiety, REVOLT, HelloBeautiful, Coveteur, Shape, Health, and more. Over the years, D'Shonda has interviewed notable influencers, celebrities, and public figures including Gabrielle Union, Chloe x Halle, Desus & Mero, Tinashe, Kelly Rowland, Tracee Ellis Ross, Migos, T-Pain, Issa Rae, and Big Sean.

Born and raised in a Puerto Rican-Moroccan household in Brooklyn, I was exposed to the power of food at an early age. My mom likes to say I learned how to cook scrambled eggs at the age of 3, which gives a glimpse into my love of cooking, and how well my parents shared their love of cooking with their children. Growing up in a vibrant and diverse community, I was exposed to different cultures and communities my entire childhood. Food was the gateway to learning more about the traditions that were so different, yet similar, to the ones I took part in. Stories, connections, and memories shared over home-cooked meals exposed me to the world- while spotlighting what made me feel good, inside and out. There is power in nourishing our bodies and I want to help others gain a sense of that power in the kitchen and at the table. I hope to share a glimpse into the meals that make me feel at home, safe, wherever I may be.
