About Sonia

I'm a Southern California-based video journalist who produces, shoots, and edits stories for BBC News, PRI's The World, The New York Times, TIME, PBS, and others. My video stories have taken me around the world, and I've worked extensively across Asia. I've produced and filmed video stories about camel traders in India, cat cafes in Japan, and a child goddess in Nepal. I previously worked as a video journalist for NBC News in New York City. It was there that I found my quirkiest, and most fun video story ever: a circus sideshow school in Coney Island (I learned fire-breathing isn't as hard as it looks!) I studied journalism and documentary filmmaking at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.

Sonia was fantastic to work with from beginning to end as a videographer/camera op and on-site field producer (all in one!) for a new HuffPost series. Sonia will definitely be a go-to again -- highly professional and awesome!

Navajo women struggle to preserve traditions as climate change intensifies. The Navajo Nation is the largest Native American tribe in the U.S. and spans three states, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. This region is facing heat waves and severe drought due to climate change, and many residents already live without electricity and running water, making the situation even more harsh.
