About Sonia

I'm a Los Angeles-based video journalist who produces, shoots, and edits stories for BBC News, PRI's The World, The New York Times, TIME, PBS, and others. My video stories have taken me around the world, and I've worked extensively across Asia. I've produced and filmed video stories about camel traders in India, cat cafes in Japan, and a child goddess in Nepal. I previously worked as a video journalist for NBC News in New York City. It was there that I found my quirkiest, and most fun video story ever: a circus sideshow school in Coney Island (I learned fire-breathing isn't as hard as it looks!) I studied journalism and documentary filmmaking at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.

The Navajo Nation is the largest Native American tribe in the U.S. and spans three states, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. This region is facing heat waves and severe drought due to climate change, and many residents already live without electricity and running water, making the situation even more harsh.
