About
Charlie is an American cinematographer, director and the founder of Charles Allen Productions. He was born in the USA, grew up in Cameroon, and has lived in Guangzhou since 2011. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Mass Communication and Film and Media Arts. He has produced video content in the USA, in Europe, in Africa, and in Asia. Charlie is fluent in Mandarin, and one of his key strengths as a creative is working with our western clients to see their needs met in China. Mike is a gifted director, cinematographer and producer. He was born and raised in Guangzhou, but his mad skills in video content creation have led him to shoot all over the world. He has worked in China, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Russia, and even in Antarctica. He graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2007, and has been working in film and television production ever since. He is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.

How technology benefits rural communities across China
“It feels great to be able to tackle challenges and come up with an answer,” says Dr Yao Weiguang, Dow’s chief technology officer for Asia-Pacific, after helping to upcycle unwanted polyurethane bicycle tyres into raw materials for building playgrounds in China’s rural communities. The sustainable initiative has been carried out jointly by the American materials science company and Meituan, a Chinese e-commerce platform. Qin Hao, who is in charge of Meituan’s sustainability development of bicycles and motorcycles, says: “We drove for 8 hours on winding mountainous roads to see children at the school having fun on the playground. That moment was very touching.”

Mother on a mission to better the lives of ‘left-behind’ children in rural China
Liang Manchan did not want her daughter growing up as a “left-behind” child – the label given to children in rural China whose parents are away working in distant cities. She learned how to make a living in her home village in Guangdong province so that she would never have to leave again. Now, this mother is an inspiration to families in similar situations, helped by efforts that include an organic farming training programme.
