AJ+ is a global news community for the connected generation. We highlight human struggles and achievements, empower impassioned voices, and challenge the status quo.  <br>  It's is Al Jazeera's mobile app and social stream dedicated for the connected generation.

Our VJ are used to leverage original short  and personal form of storytelling from the ground.

AJ+ VJ stories are not normal news.  A straight-forward look at who, what, when, where doesn’t work for us.  We are looking for stories that are made interesting by the unexpected angle, human side, or visually captivating.   Ask yourself does this story move me or does it just inform me? 
 
Here are some aspects of what makes an AJ+ story:
Unique side angle on a major story.  Also a story that connects two things not commonly associated with each other.
Pushback to conventional wisdom on how the mainstream media (including Al Jazeera) or governments frame an issue.  
Emotional or compassionate side of a story.  Show specifically how people are directly affected by the issue (Emotions go beyond sadness can be awe, humor, anger, love, inspiration, etc…).  
Direct from the ground.  Hear directly from people in the city/town/village where the bigger story is taking place.
 Incredible visual.  Is there something we need to see (and hear) to believe?  This is video, so let’s leverage those stories.  It doesn’t have to be “hard news.”


Commissioned videos will appear at least one of AJ+'s language channels (English, Spanish, Arabic) and potentially on our partner's channels too.

Enrique Huaiquil is a Chilean-American Emmy Award-winning cinematographer and editor. He has covered a wide variety of issues, including the Central American caravans trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, the aftermath of the earthquake in Puerto Rico, white supremacy in America, COVID-19 intensive care units, and immigration detention centers.

Huaiquil is a descendant of the Mapuche Indigenous tribe in Chile and is also a photographer. He has a master’s degree in filmmaking from American University. In 2020, he won an Emmy for video editing for a short documentary produced by AJ+ video, He Survived Ebola, Now this Doctor Is Battling Coronavirus.
