As a kid in Tucson, Ben started making skate videos and 'crime dramas' with firecrackers as the gun shot sound effects. He played music and then studied film at Oberlin College before moving to Chicago where he further developed his skills in short-form documentary filmmaking by balancing his commercial projects for Leo Burnett with lower budget work for local artists, Vice, Pitchfork music festival, Stüssy, and vitaminwater. Since moving to New York, Ben's been able to put his focus solely on that work he cares most about: telling stories as a Producer, Director, Shooter, and Editor for MTV News, New York Magazine, VICE, the FADER/ Cornerstone, Refinery29, Humans of New York, and Change.org.
This is the 2nd video that I'm really proud that I produced for MTV News. Maggie Juarez and all the rest of the 'chingonas' from Jolt Texas we're truly inspiring... and effective! As of August 30th, SB4 had been blocked by a by a federal judge in Texas! Edit by Matt Walker/ SP Stacey Sommer.
Really proud--'prideful'--of this first real story that I did for MTV News. Wyoming is the most conservative, and least populated states in the entire country, and yet, it's LGBTQ community is one of the most vibrant. With the shadow of Matthew Shepard's awful murder well behind them, this community is shining with its pride, support, and love for one another.
Shooting all NYC-based interviews and performances for this piece was a blast. I think it's probably one of the smarter pieces of branded content that I've ever done also, because it's really about something. Also, Anderson .Paak. My segments directed by Corey Janus and Wes Orshoski.
