  • Cape Town couple who feeds homeless during South African lockdown gets their car torched

    • News Shooter / Video Journalist

A Cape Town resident who got his car torched after continuing to feed the homeless outside his apartment complex in Sea Point says he’s not deterred. “We’ve been out here feeding the homeless since the first day of lockdown. And two nights ago, we discovered that our car was set alight and burned to the ground. Somebody decided that they don’t want this to be taking place on their doorstep,” says Peter Wagenaar. While the car is a material object that can be replaced, flaring tempers around community disagreements needs to be cooled down, says Wagenaar. “But I hope that it really creates a talking point for the community… that we can agree to disagree, in certain instances. But not take things to this kind of level.” #Coronavirus
