Constantine Papanicolaou grew up in Ridgewood, NJ. Upon graduating from high school in the spring of 1994, he moved to Berkeley, CA to attend the University of California. It was during his time at Berkeley that he became interested in film and video production Constantine graduated Berkeley in the spring of 1998 with a degree in Applied Math. The following winter, he produced and directed his first ski film, titled “Chapter Three”, which received strong reviews from the ski and snowboard community. After completion of “Chapter Three”, Constantine spent four years working as a software engineer, including two years with Amazon.com designing and building Suppy-Chain Optimization Software. He then returned to school in the summer of 2003 for a Master of Business Administration at the University of Southern California, and to pursue his long-time interest in filmmaking. Since completing graduate school at USC, Constantine has gone on to produce and direct ski and outdoor sports films for companies such as Oakley, Red Bull and ESPN. Constantine is based in Truckee, California.
Crete Arising is a winter adventure film set in Greece. The film followers a group of mountaineers on the island of Crete. Concerned that summer tourism has begun to alter the fabric of the island, the group sets about to organize the first ever winter ski mountaineering race on the island.
Astamatitos is a short film about ski touring in Greece. At the age of 87, Mr. Dimitris Managas of Thessaloniki has decided to try ski mountaineering. His close friend and protege Asterios Serdaris has talked him into it. As it turns out, this isn’t his first time. Sixty years ago, Managas was one of the first downhill skiers of Greece. At that time no chairlifts existed and skiing by default was ski mountaineering. With the help of Asterios, Mr. Managas visits 3-5 Pigadia ski area and begins his climb up the mountain, proving once and for all that age is just a number.
Hera’s Angels is a short film about ski touring and splitboarding in Greece. Three Greek women, Eirini, Maria and Andriana, join together for a girls only ski touring and splitboarding adventure in Greece. From the mythical summits of Mount Olympos, to the rolling slopes of Mount Parnassos, to the the face melting views of Dirfys Mountain, the mountain of the goddess Hera, the Angels deliver a clear message. Ski touring and splitboarding are for everyone, and Greece is the perfect place for both!
Frozen Ambrosia is a winter adventure film about skiing, snowboarding, hiking and mountaineering on Mount Olympos and the mountains of Greece. This one of a kind documentary gives new light to a side of the country that most never knew existed. Written, produced and directed by Constantine Papanicolaou.
