Jane Kokan is an award-winning camerawoman, director and journalist. She has covered key international events including: some of the world’s most catastrophic humanitarian and refugee crises, environmental disasters in Eastern Europe and Africa, the collapse of European communism, and has filmed and reported from some of the globe’s most perilous conflict zones. Often working alone, she has covered challenging subjects including: documenting human rights abuses in Iran, Chechnya, Bosnia, Kosovo and Sudan; examining social, health and gender issues in Afghanistan; reporting on the drug economies of the developing world; and has been filming in the vast Arctic circumpolar region on a project regarding sovereignty issues. She has produced, directed and filmed documentaries and news features for a variety of broadcasters including: the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, PBS, CBC, Global TV, Al Jazeera, ZDF, ARD, SVT, NRK, France 2, NHK, Discovery International, National Geographic and others.
Jane Kokan investigates the student movement in Iran which is struggling for greater civil rights against mounting human rights abuses. Students and dissidents who are fighting for a more democratic Iranian government are interviewed. The journey starts in London, where Kokan meets members of the Iranian diaspora. They share their personal stories, as well as amateur videos and other evidence.

The story of Mike Frastacky, a Canadian carpenter, who constructed the Maktab Hazrat Osman School in Nahrin, Baghran Province in Afghanistan. He built the school from scratch using the skills of his trade and money he contributed himself and collected from friends. Sadly, "Mr. Mike", as he was known by locals was shot to death by gunmen on location in Afghanistan. His legacy lives on.
