Artist Caecilia Tripp and sound architect Kerwin Rolland spent most of the month of June 2019 in Miami for our fourth ARTSail residency to date. Their goal: to capture original audio across healthy as well as damaged coral reefs to investigate and document regional impacts of man-made global warming. The recording will be used to create The Coral Sonata, a new musical score by Caecilia with Kerwin’s technical assistance. Over the course of three weeks we undertook two boat expeditions, multiple visits and recording sessions with our partners Rescue a Reef at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and a series of meetings with local cultural producers, curators and climate activists.

On July 9th, hundreds of protestors took to the streets of Miami to march for Black Lives Matter. The march started at Wynwood Walls, went all the way to bayside, onto I-395, and then back to Wynwood. It was a peaceful protest and it must be acknowledged that the police allowed the protest to go on with out incident.
