‘Water Kiosk at School’ is a classic start-up story, with more aims than profits and financial returns. Venuste Kubwimana is a Rwandan social entrepreneur who is trying to bring clean water closer to the communities, specifically community schools in the East African region.
Pneumonia is an acute respiratory infection affecting the lungs and can be caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi. According to the WHO, only in the Sub-Saharan Africa it kills half million children. Brian Turyabagye is a Ugandan engineer and a co-inventor of a ‘biomedical smart jacket’ which detects pneumonia faster than a doctor. Brian and his team are working to help doctors quickly diagnose Pneumonia by improving the treatment process in affected children below the age of five.
The griot is a phenomenon which characterizes the West African music scene. They are the defenders of West African civilization and professors of ethnomusicology. Noumoucounda Cissoko is one such artist from Senegal. He is a modern griot who combines traditional kora with hip-hop beats. We traveled to Senegal to discover this unique combination of the kora which is a 21-stringed African harp, emblematic of West African Manding culture which was born centuries ago.
