Solomon Serwanjja is the Executive Director of the African Institute for Investigative Journalism, (AIIJ) a home of investigative journalism. The organisation focuses on growing investigative journalism through training and capacity building, collaborative investigative reporting, grant making and research. Recently AIIJ won the digital human rights lab competition with their new innovation called the IROOM, a platform, though a prototype stage will profile issues around human rights abuses and efforts to bring perpetrators to account.
Mr. Serwanjja is also an award winning investigative journalist currently working at NBS TV in Uganda. He is the lead anchor for the prime news bulletin NBS LIVEAT9. He is also the deputy head of the investigations desk.
Mr. Serwanjja is the 2019 BBC World News Komla Dumor Award winner, a prestigious award that celebrates journalists that have excelled in Africa. His professional work has been appreciated by several journalism institutions like the African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) which recognized him as the Journalist of the year 2017 award for his investigative work. He is a 21 time award winning journalists with accolades from ACME, Association of International Broadcasters (AIBs), Uganda Gender Media Awards, Radio and Television award, Makerere University among others.
Mr. Serwanjja is also a United Nations Reham Al-Farra Journalism 2018 fellow, a highly competitive and prestigious 4 weeks intensive course on covering the United Nations.
He has worked with several news organisations including UBC, NTV, NBS, KTN and the BBC.
