Sweden-based freelance journalist, covering humanitarian and social issues from around the world. An experienced reporter with a background in local and specialist press, Sara Assarsson writes for a variety of newspapers, magazines and newsletters in Scandinavia, as well as reports for Swedish Public Radio (SR). Sara Assarsson began her career in journalism as a trainee at The Sunday Independent in Johannesburg in 1999, before relocating to London, UK. There, she worked as a healthcare journalist and local reporter for several publications. In 2007, she moved back to Sweden to join Sydsvenskan (The South Sweden Daily), where she gained valuable experience on the business, national and foreign news desk. Since 2010, Sara Assarsson is a freelance reporter focusing on social and humanitarian issues in sub-Saharan Africa.
