A short documentary story on Ji Hwan Seung, a Korean student at Cornell University, who decided to take a leave of absence for two years to serve in the Korean military. While the military service is compulsory for all South Korean male nationals, Seung talks about how the service changed his perspectives, thoughts, and lifestyle all for the better. Part of a weekly series that updated the Cornell University community on news about the 2016 presidential elections that was relevant to students. For example, the videos included surveys on students voting behavior, and how they were affected by the presidential debates. The series of videos were shared and popular on Facebook. Scripted, filmed and produced the entire series. Knife throwing classes took place out in a park in Chicago on a rainy day. The entire park was filled with laughter and screaming for encouragement as participants learned for their first time how to hit a target with a knife. This story is about a 9-year-old child, Saara, who is from Aleppo, and how she compares her new life in Chicago to her past in Syria. It also includes her father's story, showing the gap between Saara's innocent thoughts and the father's reality. Pitched, scripted, edited and filmed this short documentary-style story completely on my own.
