About Tim

Tim Gerard Barker is an award-winning photographer, filmmaker and drone pilot based in Vietnam since 2012. Tim was based in Hanoi until early 2016 when he relocated to Ho Chi Minch City. He has extensive experience working throughout Vietnam and the entire South East Asian region. Tim has experience working on a wide range of photography and videography projects including: commercial, travel, editorial, documentary, portraiture, corporate and industrial. Tim’s desire to explore the world and to understand different cultures drives his work. His images capture real people and real places with a colourful, graphic style. Tim’s travel imagery is represented by the Lonely Planet Images collection at Getty Images and he is also a stringer for Getty Images News. For commercial work he is represented by NOI Pictures and Getty Images Global Assignment. He is also on the roster at Wonderful Machine. Tim's work has garnered numerous awards over the years, with citations in the International Photography Awards, Australia’s Top Photographers and Travel Photographer of the Year. In 2016 Tim was commissioned to produce a corporate film for the Western Australian grain growers' cooperative CBH Group during a grower tour for WA growers from the company. CBH growers visited the Interflour Vietnam mill, port and malt plant in Cai Mep and also the Heineken Brewery in Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2017 Tim was commissioned to produce a corporate film for the Western Australian grain growers' cooperative CBH Group covering the opening of the US$70 million Intermalt facility in Vietnam which will provide Western Australian grain growers with direct access to the Asian beer market.
Responsible Asia Forestry and Trade (RAFT)

In 2013 Tim travelled to Northern Vietnam with RAFT (The Responsible Asia Forestry & Trade partnership) and it’s partner TFT Vietnam (The Forest Trust) to document their work with the Bao Yen Forestry Company as they assist them and the community members working with them to become FSC certified. This included partnering with them to train local communities in sustainable forest management.

Dog-Meat Mafia Fuels Thailand’s Canine Trade

In 2013 Tim worked with journalist Craig Skehan and editor Colin Elphick on a story about the illegal dog trade between Thailand and Vietnam. Thai stray dogs are smuggled to Vietnam, where they are sold and eaten. With bribery at border checkpoints, apathy in Laos, and Vietnam's appetite for dogs, Thai authorities are struggling to stop an estimated 200,000 dogs every year being exported alive.
