Coal is the single biggest contributor to climate change. Burning coal, mainly to generate power, is responsible for nearly half of the world's carbon dioxide emissions. There are only some 27 coal-fired power plants in sub-Saharan Africa. This is a tiny amount compared to the rest of the world. But many fear a potential coal boom on the continent as African nations scramble to meet their power needs. This dilemma is something South Africa is struggling with, as DW's Christine Mhundwa found out on a recent visit." - Deutsche Welle - Story by DW Reporter Chrsitine Mhundwa

A significant memorial service at the Anglican Cathedral of St Mary The Virgin Johannesburg, where the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu was ordained and became Dean of the Cathedral in 1975, and also the first black bishop of Johannesburg in 1985. A few members of the late Archbishops family where in attendance, so too where those of the congregation, the Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Dr Mpho Phalatse and her team and the media, to witness and share in the requiem memorial service for the late Archbishop Emeritus Deomond Tutu. Processions of the Anglican church started the event accompanied by burning incense and the organ playing. Prayers were to follow, complimented with choir singing and hymns. Key speakers such as the Mayor were invited to say some words about the Archbishop, and even members of other religious groups would promote the Archbishops history, his religious strength and pursuit of South Africa's freedom from oppression and need for justice. Members of his family were present to light candles for Tutu with the Mayor and then give short speeches. The church continued to share stories of Tutu and his position in that specific cathedral and his impact on the country. After the tributes, messages and offertories there was a final thanksgiving, communion, invitational prayers and final blessings for Tutu.

Decades after the end of the Apartheid government in South Africa, the situation hasn't changed much for the poor divide from the rich, and has more likely deepened the wedge between those that earn money and those that struggle to have money. This is a overview of the ever growing concern in the country between those with influence and privilege and those born into poverty and inherited poverty. The ever distancing poles of the minority's with money, monopolized businesses, racial advantages and political connections and a majority of society that struggle for jobs, have broken families, receive little intervention and survive on pitiful political handouts. Decades into a democratic and free South Africa, society and fallen further into decay with a ever growing poor population, separated further away from the wealthy and connected.

South Africa's government is considering banning the ownership of firearms by ordinary citizens in a bid to have more control on firearm use in the country. Citizens of the country feel the government is attempting to remove another arm of the defense in a country renowned for its crime and gun violence. Some groups push for stronger gun control to remove guns altogether from society, while others believe they should rather know more about guns, how to handle firearms and how to use them to help protect themselves in the crime riddled country.
