Hikaru is a self-shooting Director/Editor based in London and Osaka working in broadcast, viral and independent documentaries as well as branded content, producing long and short format films for BBC, NHK, the Guardian, Tate gallery, and international brands such as Casio, Sony, Dove and Yamaha. Currently producing and directing a feature length documentary 'Lawyers' about the first openly gay couple who started their own law firm in Japan. The film is supported by BBC and NHK (Japanese public broadcaster) and have won the Best Pitch award at the 2014 Tokyo Docs forum. Also initiated and co-directed an award winning film 'Love Hotel' (2014, UK/France/Japan) about a love hotel in Osaka for BBC4 Storyville/France 2, which premiered at Hot Docs International Film Festival 2014, receiving warm reception from both critics and audience.

Hikaru joined the London based creative agency Kash's team as executive producer for Casio's online outdoor campaign film for their new G shock range. The film is part of 'Never Give Up' series of documentaries and follows crack climbers Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker as they attempt 125 climbs, 22 mile run and 0 sleep all in 24hrs.

Pensioners, lawyers, married couples and teenagers are all customers at the Angel Love Hotel in Osaka Japan. With unprecedented access into one of the most private and anonymous spaces in Japanese society, this film follows the love hotel's struggling manager and staff as the try to keep their hotel running, as well as revealing the intimate and private lives of the customers who visit.
Fumi and Kazu are life partners, both professionally and privately: they run the first and only law firm in Japan set up by an openly gay couple. 'Lawyers' follows their professional and personal lives. Their caseload represents the contemporary Japanese context for the universal themes of justice, equal rights and love.
