About

Born and raised in Birmingham, AL, Shaina has produced radio, text and photography stories addressing identity and conflict transformation from Gaza City to Oakland. She has had four years of experience working on social justice and diversity programming for high school youth and is a trained facilitator for the Berkeley School of Journalism Equity and Inclusion Committee. Over the past several years, Shaina has worked with women’s rights NGOs in Uganda, Bolivia, Palestine and India documenting textile production as a catalyst of social and economic empowerment. Shaina studied International Affairs and Fine Art at George Washington University and has an MA in Islamic and Middle East Studies from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Currently she studies new media journalism, Arabic language and the Middle East at UC Berkeley. Her work has been featured on Public Radio International, WBHM, Haaretz, and Times of Israel. She also writes a food blog with her mom.
