About

I believe that indigenous people, stories and ideas can contribute to understanding and solving the world's biggest and most pressing challenges. This belief inspires my writing and gives strength to my voice. My work has appeared in The Guardian, Jacobin Magazine, Huffington Post, Salon, Fusion, Indian Country Today and other publications. I was awarded High Country News’ 2017 Diverse Western Voices Award and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Indigenous Fellowship. I grew up in a single-mother household in Oakland California, and am a proud member of the Canim Lake Band Tsq'escen and a descendant of the Lil'Wat Nation of Mount Currie. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude with History Departmental Honors from Columbia University and received a Clarendon Scholarship to read for a master's in Global and Imperial History at the University of Oxford, where I graduated from Somerville College in 2016.
