About Idris
Idris Muktar Ibrahim is a Documentary filmmaker & Journalist working between East Africa and the United States. Idris is dedicated to working on films and stories that revolve around human rights, displacement, culture, and geopolitics. His film career focuses on telling the stories of change-makers in business, culture, and technology in the African continent. He’s also produced and reported current affairs and news for several international broadcasters. His documentary “ Finding Home” is currently screening at festivals worldwide. Idris holds a Master’s in Journalism and News Documentary from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.

This assignment was an investigative piece about a mother-daughter team that allowed to film how Female genital mutilation is done. The mother had learnt the practice from her own mother and she is now passing it on to her barely 20year old daughter. FGM is banned and it is illegal in the United Kingdom and many African countries yet it is still practiced in many parts of Subsaharan Africa.
