Michael Burke is an Emmy-winning filmmaker who loves to tell the stories of real people striving to affect change in the world. He has traveled all over in search of subjects, living in national parks and experiencing endless days under the Arctic sun. Five continents down, two to go. Currently living in Dallas and originally from Chicago, Michael started his career as a producer in the advertising production industry working on projects for screens of all sizes, including national ad campaigns and main title sequences for Marvel Studios. I created this documentary for the University of Notre Dame's Grotto network. From working for free at the top fine dining restaurant in the U.S. to a career reimagining Filipino food, chef Emmanuel Garcia shows us the passion and grit it takes to build a career as a world-class chef.
In the final of three border stories in collaboration with the Grotto Network, I joined a group that plants crosses to honor the lives of migrants who have died in the desert. Many of these migrants die unidentified, but they believe all lives are worth remembering.
I had the opportunity to once again work with CM Productions to help create content for the WiNGS Dallas annual luncheon. In this collaboration with the Grotto Network, I had the opportunity to visit the Migrant Carpentry Workshop, part of the DouglaPrieta Works philanthropic partnership between Douglas, Arizona and Agua Prieta, Mexico. It was inspiring to see a new perspective on the immigration crisis and a grassroots effort to make a positive impact in the lives of migrants.

Humane Borders is dedicated to saving their lives by providing water along the way of their grueling and dangerous journey. "It's not for me to judge whether they are breaking the law; I just want to help human beings in need."
