Beyond the Line illuminates how a fully bi-partisan effort created the first, and one of the largest, fully electric bus rapid transit (BRT) systems in the nation; bringing with it faster, more efficient transit, significant infrastructure upgrades, jobs, community benefits, and cleaner air. IndyGo—the Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation—is home to 43 electric buses that provide a safe, reliable, and economically accessible commute alternative. After carrying the burden of misfortune throughout his life, a single father seeks redemption as he raises his son. For Deon “Sonnie” Casey, life has not gone according to plan. Raised by his grandmother after the death of his parents, Deon is now a single parent himself, working over 60 hours a week. Despite setbacks, Deon is determined to provide a better life for his son. Little Warriors is a short documentary film about a group of youth in Indianapolis who in 2016-17 successfully inspired their City County Council to adopt a youth-driven Climate Recovery Resolution. Destination Park is a short documentary film that examines deep within Trump's America, a camp of destitute truck drivers confide their anxieties, frustrations and fears to the chaplain of a Midwest mobile chapel.

About Sam
Sam Mirpoorian is an award-winning filmmaker exploring societal themes at the intersection of time, isolation, health, science, + introspection. During his undergrad + grad studies at Indiana University, he made his first doc-short, Little Warriors, which tells the story about youth activism in the space of climate policy. The film was a Grand Prize Winner at the Academy Award-Qualifying, Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis. In 2018, Sam edited + produced a doc-short, Destination Park, which examines a mobile chapel located in the heart of a desolate truck stop in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York + made its online premiere via The Atlantic in 2019. In 2020, Sam’s second doc-short, Sonnie, which follows the serene + poignant life of a single father raising his son, played + won awards from over 40 film festivals across the United States + is a recipient of the Kodak Motion Picture Film Bronze Award for Excellence in Filmmaking. Sonnie won three Regional Emmy® Awards and was acquired by NBC, making its broadcast premiere via Peacock in 2021. In addition to his film work, Sam has directed, shot, edited, + produced national + regional commercial/branded content campaigns for philanthropic + environmental foundations including brands such as Pharrell Williams’ IceCream, Robert Redford’s The Redford Center, the YMCA, NASCAR, Goodwill, Louisville Slugger, High & Mighty, + others.
