About

I am an award-winning documentary, portrait, and travel photographer based between Toronto, Canada, and Bogota, Colombia. Originally from Nicaragua, I immigrated with my family to Canada in the late 1980s due to a civil war in Nicaragua. These experiences as a refugee and immigrant have informed my worldview and sparked a lifelong fascination with history and geopolitics that led me to pursue photography as a way to both understand the world around me and document the lives and experiences of others. My personal work focuses largely on issues of Latin American identity, immigration, human and workers rights, and the unique diversity in cultures and traditions across the Americas. I hold a degree in Photojournalism from Loyalist College in Ontario, Canada, and have been based in Toronto, Canada since 2016. I have worked mainly with local and national media in Canada including The Globe and Mail, Macleans Magazine, The Canadian Press, The Local, The San Francisco Chronicle among others. Despite being based in Toronto, my personal work has taken me to countries such as Egypt, Guatemala, Mexico, and my native Nicaragua, where I was awarded a CPOY Award of Excellence for my photographic coverage of the social unrest in that country in 2018.
