Over the last five years, lifesavers from all over the world have travelled to Dorset to develop their skills in operating and leading a lifesaving organisation. The delegates have one thing in common – all come from countries where drowning is a major cause of death. With stories as diverse as their backgrounds, these men and women are joining together for a common cause – to end drowning for good. As they return to their countries, they are even more determined to inspire and equip individuals and communities to save lives and prevent drowning deaths. Here we meet some of the RNLI Future Leaders in Lifesaving 2017. A promotional film for the SwimSafe children's swimming project in Bangladesh. ANGELS is an independent documentary project, funded by a grant from the European Journalism Centre, exploring the taboo issue of infertility in Africa. Thousands of women in sub-Saharan Africa are affected by the pain and sadness of infertility, yet infertility is still widely perceived to be a uniquely ‘Western’ problem. The project, including films, essays, photography and audio in English and French, documents how West African women and doctors are determined to shatter taboos around the subject of infertility, offering women opportunities for treatment and support. The ANGELS story has featured on BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service, Geographical and Jeune Afrique. ANGELS won a “Merck More than a Mother” Film Award 2019 in ‘Film Category’ for French-Speaking African Countries. A short film for the BBC This was produced for use by the RNLI International advocacy team, to present to UN change makers, using photography Jane commissioned for an accompanying United Nations exhibition called, Just One Inch of Water.
